About The Position

The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components. This role drives the full software development lifecycle, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and fault tolerance. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to align engineering initiatives with business objectives. The engineer applies sound judgment in architectural decisions, fosters continuous improvement, and champions innovation to support Walmart’s evolving technology landscape and deliver impactful solutions for customers and associates. Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) Technology delivers scalable fulfillment solutions for third-party sellers, integrating transportation, inventory, warehouse operations, billing, and delivery. The team bridges Marketplace and Walmart’s supply chain by collaborating with Product, Business, Operations, Supply Chain, and Transportation partners. Combining the agility of a growth business with the scale of a global retailer, the team drives innovation and expands fulfillment capabilities into new models and international markets. This environment fosters technical excellence and cross-functional collaboration to develop impactful solutions that enhance the seller fulfillment experience.

Requirements

  • Strong coding skills and a proven ability to deliver production-quality code
  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable infrastructure
  • Proven expertise in software development lifecycle management — CI/CD, testing, observability, and incident response
  • Strong background in AI/ML integration and building intelligent software systems using Python, Java, and C++
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage advanced development tools to enhance quality and velocity
  • Skilled in technical mentorship, architectural decision-making, and fostering engineering excellence across teams
  • Excellent problem-solving and requirements analysis focused on customer-centric metrics and outcomes
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional stakeholders and drive innovation
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Be a deeply hands-on technical leader - write production-quality code, build automated tests, and drive implementations through production deployment
  • Lead platform engineering to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps
  • Drive full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing capabilities
  • Architect and integrate AI/ML-enhanced applications supporting millions of users with advanced intelligent systems
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship, promoting engineering excellence across teams
