The Principal Software Engineer leads platform engineering efforts by delivering scalable, cloud-native solutions and reusable infrastructure components that support long-term technical roadmaps. This role drives the full software development lifecycle across multiple teams, integrating AI/ML capabilities and ensuring high availability and reliability. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business needs into actionable engineering outcomes. The Principal Software Engineer champions innovation, continuous improvement, and adherence to quality standards while fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability. Walmart Data Ventures operates with the agility of a nimble startup, delivering best-in-class data products. The team developed Walmart Luminate, a platform offering actionable, customer-centric insights that empower CPGs and Walmart merchants to make informed, data-driven decisions efficiently. Emphasizing technical strategy, reliability engineering, scalability, and cloud-native architecture, the group builds innovative solutions. Requirements

  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Strong technical judgment with a focus on maintainability, scalability, and long-term architectural alignment.
  • Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team architectural decisions.
  • Proficiency in AI agent integration and model-driven design to enhance development velocity and quality.
  • Effective collaboration skills with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence in software engineering.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
