About The Position

As a Principal Software Engineer at Walmart, you will lead the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving cloud-native architecture and AI/ML integration across multiple teams. This role requires overseeing the full software development lifecycle, ensuring high availability and reliability of distributed systems. You will provide strategic technical leadership, mentor engineering teams, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to translate complex business needs into innovative solutions. Your expertise will support Walmart’s long-term technology vision while fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence. The Access Governance & Compliance Engineering (ACGC) team develops and operates platforms, automation, and compliance controls that safeguard Walmart’s technology ecosystem at scale. Collaborating with Information Security, Engineering, Infrastructure, and business teams, the group delivers identity governance, access certifications, privileged access controls, and compliance solutions supporting secure access for numerous associates and applications worldwide. Combining engineering innovation with regulatory responsibility, the team transforms compliance processes through automation, AI-driven capabilities, and modern platform engineering, enhancing security, audit readiness, and user experience while advancing intelligent access governance for Walmart’s critical systems and business resilience.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable and reliable cloud-native architectures.
  • Proven ability to design and implement distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Strong expertise in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, and incident response.
  • Proficiency in technical solution design, model-driven design, and applying engineering best practices.
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring engineers and influencing architectural decisions across teams.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders and communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and maintaining high-quality technical standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
