About The Position

The Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving cloud-native architecture and distributed system solutions that support long-term business goals. This role oversees the full software development lifecycle, integrating AI/ML technologies to build intelligent applications serving millions. Providing strategic technical leadership, the position fosters engineering excellence through mentorship, collaboration, and innovation. The Principal Engineer ensures alignment with roadmap milestones, maintains architectural standards, and drives continuous improvement to deliver high-quality, reliable software solutions that meet operational and customer needs. The International Recommendations Platform team develops a scalable, multi-tenant framework delivering personalized experiences across Walmart International sites. The team drives innovation in Machine Learning and AI, leveraging cloud-native architecture and software design patterns to build resilient solutions. Collaboration focuses on API design, system reviews, and data-driven decisions. Emphasizing continuous improvement through DevOps and software prototyping, the team ensures accelerated delivery and high-quality standards. This environment fosters technical excellence and impactful innovation, supporting the development of advanced AI agents and cloud engineering solutions that enhance customer engagement and business outcomes globally.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps.
  • Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture and distributed system design ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Strong proficiency in software development lifecycle management, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect AI/ML integrated applications using languages such as Python, Java, and C++.
  • Skilled in applying model-driven design and leveraging advanced development tools to enhance velocity and quality.
  • Effective technical leadership and mentorship capabilities fostering engineering excellence and innovation.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to engage cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.
