About The Position

The Principal Software Engineer will lead adoption of FIS’s frontend platform, including its design systems, frameworks, and shared components used by product teams across banking, payments, and capital markets. The role owns the migration path from legacy frameworks to the new platform and the technical relationship with teams that depend on it. The engineer will plan and drive large-scale migrations, retire legacy technology, reduce related costs, and use feedback from consuming teams to make the platform easier to adopt. Success is measured by faster platform adoption, lower legacy and licensing costs, and increased trust in the platform across FIS. The role leads a global engineering team across US and India time zones, supports consuming teams during US business hours, and partners with engineering, product, security, and leadership to set migration priorities and timelines. It also includes resolving complex issues, improving platform self-service, and coaching engineers in modern frontend development and AI-assisted development.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience building production-grade web applications at enterprise scale.
  • Advanced expertise in Angular or React, with working depth in the other.
  • Experience leading large framework migrations or modernization efforts across many teams.
  • Experience with design systems, component libraries, or shared frontend platforms used by other teams.
  • Proven technical leadership, including leading distributed or offshore teams.
  • Clear communication with engineers, product managers, and executives, and ability to influence without authority.
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools and a point of view on how they affect migration and maintenance work.
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in banking, payments, or financial services.
  • Background in developer relations, solutions architecture, or customer engineering.
  • Experience with automated code transformation (codemods, AST tooling) at scale.
  • Experience managing enterprise software licenses and vendor renewals.
  • Familiarity with frontend observability, application security scanning, and dependency management.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices for regulated financial environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead migration of product teams across FIS from legacy Angular frameworks to React and the new design system.
  • Build migration playbooks, codemods, reference implementations, and AI-assisted tooling to reduce migration effort.
  • Own technical relationships with consuming teams, including intake, triage, escalation, and service levels during US business hours.
  • Track adoption and support-load metrics and use them to shape the platform roadmap.
  • Lead a global engineering team spanning US and India time zones.
  • Keep legacy frameworks secure and stable until their consumers migrate, then retire them.
  • Rationalize shared frontend tooling and enterprise licenses, such as AG Grid, across FIS.
  • Resolve complex production, integration, performance, and security issues in consuming applications.
  • Turn recurring issues into platform fixes, documentation, and self-service tooling.
  • Partner with engineering, product, security, and leadership across FIS to set migration priorities and timelines.
  • Coach engineers on React, modern frontend engineering, and AI-assisted development.
