About The Position

The Principal Software Engineer leads complex, large-scale cross-functional projects by translating requirements into technical solutions and overseeing design, development, and testing activities. This role drives the full software development lifecycle, integrating AI/ML technologies to build intelligent systems that serve millions. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across teams to ensure alignment with long-term architectural goals. This is a hands-on role owning complex initiatives end to end, from understanding the business problem and defining architecture, integrations, and detailed designs to deep implementation. They write production code, automate quality and validation, and take solutions through deployment and production readiness. About the team: Walmart Fulfillment Services (WFS) Technology powers seamless, scalable fulfillment for third-party sellers, supporting transportation, inventory, warehouse operations, billing, and delivery. The team operates at the intersection of Marketplace and Walmart’s supply chain, collaborating closely with Product, Business, Operations, Supply Chain, and Transportation partners. Combining the agility of a growth business with the scale of the world’s largest retailer, the team drives innovation and expands fulfillment capabilities into new models and international markets. This environment fosters technical excellence and cross-functional collaboration to deliver impactful solutions that enhance the seller fulfillment journey.

Requirements

  • Strong coding skills with a consistent track record of delivering production-quality code
  • Extensive experience leading platform engineering, designing scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable infrastructure
  • Proven expertise across the full software development lifecycle — CI/CD, testing, observability, and incident response
  • Deep background in AI/ML integration and intelligent system development using Python, Java, and C++
  • Skilled in leveraging advanced development tools to accelerate quality and velocity
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and foster engineering excellence across teams
  • Sharp problem-solving and requirements analysis focused on customer-centric outcomes
  • Highly effective communicator and collaborator who engages cross-functional stakeholders and drives innovation
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Responsibilities

  • Be a deeply hands-on technical leader, write production-quality code, build automated tests, and take implementations all the way through production deployment
  • Lead platform engineering efforts to deliver scalable, cloud-native infrastructure and reusable tooling aligned with strategic roadmaps
  • Own the full software development lifecycle across teams, ensuring high availability, fault tolerance, and real-time data processing
  • Architect and integrate AI/ML-enhanced applications that serve millions of users at scale
  • Mentor and grow engineers, championing a culture of engineering excellence
  • Partner with stakeholders to translate business goals into clear technical requirements and measurable success metrics
  • Drive continuous improvement by adopting innovative tools and practices that accelerate development velocity and quality
