About The Position

The Principal Scientist will join Bristol Myers Squibb’s Cellular Therapy Translational Research group in Seattle, Washington, supporting cell therapy development programs for autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. The role is responsible for driving and implementing translational development strategies and clinical biomarker plans for cellular therapy clinical studies. The scientist will work with contract research organizations and internal and external collaborators to design, execute, and interpret translational experiments and analyses. Work includes identifying biomarkers and generating and analyzing data to support pharmacodynamic evaluation and mechanism-of-action assessment in clinical trials, inform cell therapy product development, and contribute to global regulatory submissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 or more years of academic and/or industry experience, or a master’s degree and 6 or more years, or a Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the life sciences and 4 or more years.

  • M.S. with 10 or more years or Ph.D. with 5 or more years of experience, preferably in biotechnology or pharmaceuticals, or demonstrated deep experience in immunology or cell therapy academic research.
  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
  • Familiarity with the drug development process from IND filing to market authorization in an industry setting.
  • Experience analyzing high-content datasets, such as transcriptomic and proteomic data.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement end-to-end translational research strategies for cell therapy clinical trials.
  • Partner with biostatisticians and computational biologists to analyze and communicate data in a timely manner and explain its context and impact.
  • Develop concepts and mechanism-of-action hypotheses that identify distinguishing characteristics of BMS cell therapy products, alone or in combination with other therapies.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of biomarker assays, including flow cytometry, transcriptomics, and proteomics, and their use in clinical trials.
  • Independently manage internal cell therapy drug development projects.
  • Serve on internal cross-functional project teams and committees as the scientific functional lead.
  • Oversee and manage contract research organizations and academic collaborators.
  • Communicate regularly and prepare and deliver presentations within the department, externally, and to internal governance committees as required.
  • Contribute to investigator brochures, IND applications, clinical protocols, regulatory annual reports, and other regulatory documents as appropriate.
