The Department of Immunology Discovery at Genentech is excited to announce an opportunity for a Principal Scientist, Lab Head, to lead a research group focused on designing next-generation cell therapies to treat autoimmune diseases. The successful candidate will lead a highly productive research team, integrating efforts across cross-functional teams to identify new targets and therapeutic hypotheses, and to advance transformative therapeutics from preclinical studies into early clinical development. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cellular immunology principles and pathways relevant to the biology of autoimmune disease, including but not limited to inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, lupus and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Excellent communication skills are essential to facilitate fruitful collaborations with colleagues across a diverse array of departments, including computational biology, proteomics and tissue genomics, drug development, early clinical development, and translational medicine. Key responsibilities include leading and managing a highly-productive research team, generating high-quality, original research that advances our understanding of autoimmune disease and contributing directly to the initiation and advancement of novel pipeline projects. The successful candidate may also play a critical role within cross-functional teams evaluating external business development opportunities to accelerate our cell therapy pipeline.
