About The Position

Parexel FSP is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Scientist to work as a full-time employee on assignment onsite at one of their clients located in Rahway, NJ. This role supports the development, characterization, and commercialization of chemical manufacturing processes for small molecules. The position involves laboratory work with various chemicals and modern equipment, as well as non-lab tasks such as experimental planning, data analysis, and report writing.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in Chemistry with 3+ years of professional experience in pharma/biopharma industry; or MS degree in Chemistry with 7+ years of experience, or BS degree with 12+ years of experience
  • Training must be in the field of organic synthesis, including synthetic methodology, catalysis, or total synthesis
  • Demonstrably clear track record of both complex molecule synthesis and solving synthetic chemistry problems
  • Experience in organic chemistry, organic synthesis, synthetic methodology, catalysis (including chemocatalysis, biocatalysis, and heterogeneous catalysis), total synthesis, physical organic chemistry, or flow chemistry
  • Significant experience in chemical synthesis, compound purification, and analytical characterization, including HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography, MS (Mass Spectrometry), and NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) techniques
  • The ability to design and execute new synthetic routes to novel compounds
  • Experience in process characterization, including Design of Experiments, fate and purge studies, and chemical marker preparation
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to work effectively and with urgency in a collaborative and diverse team environment
  • The ability to work independently with minimum supervision of daily tasks

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory-based support of process development, characterization, and commercialization of small molecule manufacturing processes
  • Laboratory work with a large variety of chemicals, using a diverse set of modern manual and automated laboratory equipment, and leveraging an array of analytical technology
  • Non-lab-based work includes experimental planning, data analysis, and experiment documentation; review of peer work, and writing clear and concise development reports
