About The Position

As one of our Principal Safeguarding Managers, you will be strategically responsible for the promotion of best practice in safeguarding across the UK and ensuring that we are able to respond to both internal and external safeguarding demands as a large provider of regulated settings and community-based services for vulnerable young people. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising senior managers and staff in respect of complex safeguarding matters affecting children and the workforce and for ensuring that these are escalated to the Director of Safeguarding where required. The post is also responsible for the design and delivery of safeguarding learning events, and the undertaking of various projects that make the charity safer. You will also be responsible for undertaking learning reviews following critical incidents.

Requirements

  • A Social Work Qualification is a MUST.
  • Experience in a statutory setting (such as children’s social care, police or probation).
  • Experience of managing safeguarding related projects successfully.
  • Experience of effective communication with internal departments and external agencies.
  • Ability to offer an independent voice to provide both challenge and support to the organisation and its staff and managers.
  • Ability to work in a trauma informed and culturally competent way with colleagues working closely with children and young people experiencing significant adversity.
  • Detailed knowledge of children’s services legislation, guidance, and regulations in at least one UK jurisdiction and knowledge of Charity Commission safeguarding expectations.
  • Understanding of issues in the provision of children’s social services and social care services in each jurisdiction and region.
  • Able to influence and create change regardless of hierarchies and without direct line management of staff.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that children, young people and vulnerable adults are safeguarded through leadership and advice provided to managers and practitioners in complex matters.
  • Review and audit the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements across the whole of the charity’s functions.
  • Ensure that relevant reports are provided for the Director of Safeguarding and Quality Assurance, ELT and trustees as required.
  • Build effective relationships with managers and staff and provide leadership, support, and challenge.
  • Undertake case reviews and whistleblowing and other investigations where there is a need to review the effectiveness of safeguarding arrangements.
  • Establish and lead multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Design and deliver safeguarding learning events both face-to-face and online.
