About The Position

The Principal Reliability Engineer supports product development, qualification, regulatory compliance, and deployment for optical communication products, including modules, circuit packs, optical systems, passive and active optical components, and optical amplifiers. The role works with customer subject matter experts to establish qualification requirements, oversees qualification testing and reporting, and coordinates testing with external laboratories against telecommunications industry standards. The position contributes to root cause analysis and corrective action, defines qualification requirements for internal products and component vendors, and applies reliability modeling and analysis methods. It also involves system-level design and troubleshooting for EMC, safety, and NEBS-related testing. The role may include occasional off-site meetings or travel, regular interaction with internal teams and external contacts, and occasional overtime or flexibility in work hours. Employees must follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. corporate EHS standards. Depending on location, the position may also be responsible for executing and maintaining applicable quality and environmental management standards, including ISO 9000, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001. Requirements

At least 5 years of experience in the optical device industry or equivalent.
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Materials Science.
Track record in Design for Reliability and leading products through qualification, compliance, and deployment.
Familiarity with Telcordia qualification standards for passive and active optical components and optical amplifiers.
Familiarity with manufacturing processes for optical communication devices and systems.
Experience in system-level design and troubleshooting for design issues in EMC, safety, and NEBS-based testing, including the standards listed in the posting.
Knowledge of reliability modeling methods such as fault trees, failure modes and effects analysis, and reliability block diagrams.
Broad knowledge and experience with optical communication systems and fiber-optic product and device reliability.
Experience with SR-332 and Weibull++ reliability tools.
Good technical knowledge and understanding of fiber optics and its practical application.
Data management and analysis skills.
Leadership and ability to work with others.
Ability to solve complex problems and make business decisions quickly, often with limited inputs; creative, analytical, and structured problem-solving capabilities.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
Ability to prioritize multiple external and internal projects.

Responsibilities

Perform FIT rate analysis during product development.
Lead DFMEA analysis and report generation for module, circuit pack, or optical system products during product development.
Work with customer subject matter experts to agree on product qualification requirements.
Oversee qualification testing and reports.
Address global regulatory compliance, including FCC, ETL, CB, FDA, CE, and RCM requirements.
Coordinate product testing at external laboratories to telecommunications industry standards such as GR-63 and GR-1089.
Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action teams.
Define qualification requirements for internal products and component vendors.
Depending on location, execute and maintain applicable quality and environmental management standards, such as ISO 9000, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
Follow site EHS procedures and Coherent Corp. corporate EHS standards.
Ensure adherence to the company’s ICARE values.
