About The Position

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Quality Control Engineer to support the Savannah River Site in Aiken, SC. This role involves supervising and directing quality control engineers, providing quality control support to construction management, and resolving complex problems related to quality activities. The position requires leadership to ensure efficient performance, safe work habits, and commitment to site policies. The Principal Quality Control Engineer will also participate in contract discussions, prepare status reports, review subcontractor procedures, and coordinate activities to ensure compliance with site specifications and standards. Additionally, this role involves preparing quality procedures, providing training, and preparing performance evaluations.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in technical discipline and at least 8 - 10 years of practical experience in construction inspection or related areas.
Associate’s degree and 10 - 12 years of practical experience.
High school diploma and 12 - 16 years of practical experience.
Well-developed organizational and supervisory skills.
Good communication talents.
Certification in areas of responsibility.
Ongoing programmatic training per the requirements of the project quality program.
Practical experience in quality control, work control, materials management, civil/structural, mechanical, maintenance, construction, or related areas.
Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site for engineering work being performed.
These walk-downs may involve constructions sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over a half mile, and climbing ladders to access remote areas.
Prior work experience working under an ASME NQA-1 quality program.
Prior DOE work experience.
Well-developed organizational skills.
Good communication skills.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Nice To Haves

Practical field experience in electrical and instrumentation and controls (I&C) quality control within the last 16 months.
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise and direct quality control engineers assigned to perform inspections and surveillance in support of project work and/or maintenance activities.
Provide quality control support to construction management and direct personnel to implement quality requirements and to accurately status the results.
Establish priorities which support construction/operations needs.
Resolve complex problems which develop during the implementation of quality activities by coordinating with internal and external departments.
Provide leadership which inspires efficient performance of assignments, safe work habits, timely exchange of information and each individuals' commitment to site policies.
Participate in contract discussions relating to quality activities.
Prepare comprehensive status reports for construction quality activities.
Review and approve subcontractors quality procedures and monitor their adherence to those procedures.
Coordinate the activities of assigned quality control engineers and with other construction departments to ensure that construction is in compliance with site specifications and standards.
Prepare quality procedures to ensure proper inspection, testing and surveillance activities are being performed.
Provide effective quality training programs and ensure assigned personnel are qualified to perform assigned tasks.
Prepare performance evaluations of assigned personnel.
Develop, revise, and perform peer reviews of Quality Control Inspection Plans related to electrical and I&C, in accordance with Design Output documents, Codes, and Standards.
Perform field related inspections in accordance with Quality Control Inspection Plans.
Document inspection results on applicable inspection records and issue non-conformance reports as required.
Review product and process compliance with all specified drawings, specifications, and other requirements through inspection and/or review of supplied materials and equipment.
Perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site for engineering work being performed.
