About The Position

Werfen is seeking a Principal Program Manager to plan and manage multiple large, multi-functional product development projects simultaneously. This role requires strong leadership skills in a highly technical medical instrument product development environment. The Principal Program Manager will provide direct supervision to program and project managers, assess resource needs, balance portfolio risk, and participate in business strategic planning. This position involves regular interaction with all levels of the organization, from R&D scientists and engineers to executive management, and requires directing program teams to achieve business results and forecasting program outcomes. The authority of the position is that required to carry out assigned duties, except where expressly reserved by senior management or Werfen Corporate/Division Policy.

Requirements

  • BS in STEM field (engineering, chemistry, physics, etc.)
  • At least 10 years of experience, preferably in product development
  • At least 7 years of successful technical leadership, project coordination, or project management
  • Full and comprehensive knowledge of the complete product lifecycle, including all aspects of product development from conception to manufacturing introduction
  • Strong project management skill set and familiarity with project management tools and techniques
  • Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Design Control

Nice To Haves

  • MS/MBA preferred
  • Additional coursework in accounting, business economics, strategy development, resource management and project management is desired
  • Experience in the development and release of at least one successful product launch of a medical instrumentation product is desirable
  • Certification in program management is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and team leadership to multiple large project teams or program teams, potentially including direct leadership of one project.
  • Responsible for project or program planning and scheduling, defining scope, utilizing milestone methods and critical path scheduling, conducting resource planning and allocation, and developing task and project estimates.
  • Responsible for conducting regular project or program team status meetings and reviews, ensuring deliverables are completed and documented, and implementing changes to plans within approved boundaries.
  • Participates in the decision-making process regarding when to employ the Agile methodology and ensures adequate resources are applied to Agile projects.
  • Responsible for coordination of program and project resources to identify individuals who can contribute to root cause analysis of issues and develop/manage plans for solutions.
  • Responsible for ensuring program and project risks (technical and management) are identified and mitigation plans are included in the program and project plan.
  • Creates and maintains design control files, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Design Control practices.
  • Responsible for program communication within project teams and between teams and executive management.
  • Responsible for ensuring adequate oversight and control of vendors providing development, test, or technical services.
  • Responsible for establishing communication channels with commercial functions, support teams, and infrastructure for successful on-market changes and new product introductions.
  • Able to resolve project and program team conflict through listening, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ensures that adequate equipment and material resources are available to advance the program and project(s) and achieve goals and objectives.
  • Works with functional management to conduct performance appraisals and coaching for project core team members, and provides direct supervision to Program Managers and Project Managers assigned to the program.
  • Participates with top management in near-term planning concerning strategy within a program and its impact across the portfolio.
  • Prepares and maintains budgets for the portfolio of programs and projects, with an annual budget between $8 million and $13 million.
