About The Position

BetterHelp is the world's largest online therapy service, dedicated to making mental health care accessible. We are seeking a Principal Product Manager, Network Economics to own therapist compensation and incentives. This role is crucial for ensuring clients can quickly find the right therapist. You will be responsible for the economic mechanisms that drive therapist supply, compensation rates, structure, and incentives, focusing on business outcomes rather than just shipped features. This position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to thrive in ambiguous environments, working at the intersection of product, economics, and clinical operations.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience in a product role with proven success through measurable impact and increasing responsibilities.
  • Experience owning pricing, incentives, payouts, or supply-side economics in a two-sided marketplace.
  • Highly analytical with the ability to build models, defend them with data science, and explain them to a CFO.
  • Deep understanding of unit and business economics.
  • Proven ability to balance business, clinical, and technical considerations in product decisions.
  • Knowledge of which decisions to test cheaply versus those that are one-time decisions, and the ability to differentiate under pressure.
  • Strong understanding of marketplace dynamics and two-sided marketplace business models.
  • Sound judgment in ambiguous situations, with the ability to determine when evidence is sufficient to act or when further investigation is needed.
  • Track record of driving cross-functional decisions to a conclusion without direct authority.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly in making quantitative arguments for executive audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with supply-side economics in a marketplace where supply is labor (e.g., ride-hail, delivery, professional services).
  • Experience compensating an independent contractor workforce and familiarity with associated constraints.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or other businesses where eligibility and payer rules are significant.
  • Fluency with experimentation and causal inference, especially where clean randomization is not always available.

Responsibilities

  • Own the incentive system to drive therapist availability towards client needs, ensuring it is targeted, measurable, and reversible.
  • Own the structure and clarity of the compensation model, ensuring therapists can predict earnings and understand what the model rewards.
  • Define 'well supplied' for the network and build tools/features to achieve this.
  • Build a compelling and sustainable earnings proposition for therapists, using controlled rollouts and rigorous measurement to optimize availability.
  • Incentivize key behaviors like therapist availability, match acceptance, and continuity of care.
  • Analyze and quantify the impact of all changes, drawing conclusions and planning next steps based on data.
  • Partner closely with matching, eligibility, member experience, therapist experience, and provider acquisition teams.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, clinical, legal, marketing, data science, and operations.
  • Participate in setting the strategy and long-term direction for the organization.
  • Own and be obsessed with KPIs.
  • Diagnose, model, design, test, measure, decide, and systematize.

Benefits

  • Remote work with regular in-person bonding experiences sponsored by the company
  • Competitive compensation
  • Holistic perks program (including free therapy, employee wellness, and more)
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401k benefits with employer matching contribution
  • The chance to build something that changes lives – and that people love
  • Any piece of hardware or software that will make you happy and productive
  • An awesome community of co-workers
