Principal Product Manager

Veeam Software•San Jose, CA
•$316,440 - $587,760

About The Position

Veeam is seeking a hands-on Principal Product Manager to define products at the intersection of data resilience, data security, and AI governance, particularly as autonomous agents and cloud-native AI workloads create new enterprise risks. This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct reports. The role is suited to a high-agency builder who is comfortable with ambiguity and can take ideas from concept to validated products and releases. The Product Manager will shape capabilities for protecting and securing AI workloads, especially in Kubernetes environments, and work closely with globally distributed engineering teams on architecture, platform hardening, and minimum viable products. The role also partners across the organization to address security findings and compliance needs, validate customer value, build demonstrations and proofs of concept, and guide iterative roadmaps based on customer learning. Success includes defining product metrics and strengthening integrations with alliance and ecosystem partners.

Requirements

  • Hands-on understanding of data protection, backup and recovery, and security disciplines, including ransomware resilience, threat detection, identity and access (including OAuth 2.1/OIDC), data security posture, AI security and governance, and software supply chain security.
  • Working understanding of how LLMs, RAG pipelines, and AI agents are built and deployed, and the data, identity, and recovery risks they introduce.
  • Ability to set up and operate environments across public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and on-premises infrastructure, including secrets management such as HashiCorp Vault.
  • Genuine interest in building and technology, with a hands-on approach to testing, breaking, and learning.
  • Prior experience in product management and/or sales engineering.
  • Ability to break complex problems into simple, shippable steps and form convictions through rigorous, data-centric analysis.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence engineers, enterprise customers, and senior leadership without authority.
  • Self-starter able to navigate ambiguity, manage multiple initiatives, and thrive in an agile, non-hierarchical environment.
  • Collaborative, team-first approach that builds alignment and supports execution.
  • Proven experience taking new products and capabilities from concept to market success.
  • Willingness to travel for customer meetings, partner activities, and conferences.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical experience in solutions architecture, security engineering, DevOps, or technical marketing engineering.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and the cloud-native ecosystem, such as Red Hat OpenShift, particularly for AI workloads.
  • Participation in the CNCF or open-source community, such as Kanister.
  • Experience with image signing and verification, such as Sigstore; reducing third-party dependency and CVE exposure; and modernizing installation, logging, and secrets workflows.
  • Background in data protection or cybersecurity, including exposure to storage, database, and security ecosystems and their APIs.

Responsibilities

  • Connect data resilience, data security posture, and AI governance, and define products that help customers remain resilient, secure, and AI-ready.
  • Shape use cases for protecting and securing AI workloads, especially in Kubernetes environments, including detecting risky agent activity and enabling precise, clean, verified recovery.
  • Work closely with globally distributed engineering teams on use-case architecture, platform hardening, and defining minimum viable products.
  • Partner cross-functionally to triage security findings into actionable work and drive compliance efforts such as SOC 2, STIG, NIST, and VPAT.
  • Articulate the rationale for product development and bring engineers, customers, and leadership along.
  • Partner with sales and customers to validate and communicate value propositions, create demos and proofs of concept, and represent products at analyst and community events.
  • Use customer insights to lead iterative product roadmaps, shipping, learning, and refining releases.
  • Take ambiguous ideas from concept through validation, prototypes, and initial releases, then scale successful products and capabilities.
  • Define and track success metrics for product areas and use them to guide future development.
  • Strengthen integrations with alliance and ecosystem partners.

Benefits
