Principal Product Manager, AI Gateway

Docker•Seattle, WA
•$280,000 - $300,000•Remote

About The Position

Docker is seeking a Product Manager to own the product direction for its AI Gateway, which provides secure model access for AI agents working in sandboxed environments. The role will shape experiences that make it easy for developers to get started while giving organizations control over model access, credentials, sensitive data, and usage. It will balance developer productivity and adoption with governance, reliability, interoperability, and cost management. The Product Manager will define the gateway’s vision, roadmap, and success measures; work with developers, enterprise customers, AI teams, platform engineers, and security stakeholders; and partner with the Sandboxes team, engineering, and design. The role spans secure onboarding, APIs and CLI tools, administration, documentation, AI coding-tool integrations, model-provider integrations, enterprise governance, routing and fallback strategies, inference cost management, and product launches.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management experience, including experience building developer tools, infrastructure, security, or platform products.
  • Demonstrated success taking a product from concept to launch, validating customer demand, defining initial scope, and driving adoption after release.
  • Strong technical background through software engineering experience or ownership of deeply technical products.
  • Ability to evaluate API designs, understand system architecture, and make informed tradeoffs with engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools and agent workflows, and an informed perspective on securely giving agents access to models, tools, and data.
  • Strong product judgment and analytical skills, including using customer research and product data to prioritize investments and measure results.
  • Excellent written communication and cross-functional leadership, with a record of aligning engineering, design, and go-to-market teams around strategy and delivering in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Responsibilities

  • Own the gateway’s product strategy, vision, roadmap, prioritization, and success measures.
  • Work directly with developers, AI teams, platform engineers, enterprise customers, and security stakeholders to identify needs, validate solutions, and guide investment.
  • Simplify onboarding from launching a sandbox and authenticating through connecting an agent, selecting a model, and completing a first useful task.
  • Partner with engineering and design to build a cohesive experience across APIs, CLI tools, administration, documentation, and AI coding-tool integrations.
  • Work with inference providers to evaluate model capabilities, plan integrations, and align on capacity, reliability, and pricing.
  • Prioritize model discovery and compatibility so customers can adopt new models without unnecessary integration work.
  • Define usable enterprise capabilities for identity, access management, credential protection, policy enforcement, and auditability.
  • Set traffic-balancing, routing, and fallback strategies across inference providers, balancing model quality, latency, availability, and cost.
  • Own inference cost-management priorities, including usage visibility, budgets, and spend optimization.
  • Write product requirements, make tradeoffs, and partner with customer-facing teams on positioning, onboarding, release readiness, and ongoing learning.

Benefits

  • Remote-first work arrangement, with offices in Seattle and Paris for connection and collaboration.
  • Flexible scheduling.
  • Generous paid time off, quarterly Whaleness Days, and an end-of-year Whaleness break.
  • Home office support.
  • Technology stipend equivalent to US$100 net per month.
  • Annual learning and development stipend for conferences, courses, certifications, and continued learning.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave after six months of employment.
  • Equity for all full-time employees.
  • Medical and retirement benefits, which vary by country.
  • Paid holidays, which vary by country.
