Principal Product Manager, Network Economics

BetterHelp
•$210,000 - $250,000•Remote

About The Position

BetterHelp is seeking a principal-level individual contributor to own therapist compensation and incentives—the economic mechanisms that help clients find the right therapist, in their state and under their plan, as quickly as possible. The role owns the product systems that shape therapist supply, compensation rates, compensation structure, and incentives, and is accountable for business outcomes as well as shipped features. The Product Manager will work across product, economics, and clinical operations to determine how much therapist capacity is needed and where, then use experiments and data to understand how the network responds to compensation changes. The role requires navigating incomplete data and differing stakeholder views to reach effective, evidence-based outcomes. This position can be performed remotely from any time zone. Employees work on PST and are asked to travel to the San Jose, California office up to three times per year, plus attend one company-wide offsite. Travel expenses are covered, and reasonable accommodations are available for employees unable to travel under unique circumstances.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of experience in a product role, with measurable impact and increasing responsibility, including ownership of pricing, incentives, payouts, or supply-side economics in a two-sided marketplace.
  • Strong analytical ability, including the ability to build and defend models with data science teams and explain them clearly to CFO-level audiences.
  • Deep understanding of unit and business economics, with the ability to balance business, clinical, and technical considerations in product decisions.
  • Ability to distinguish decisions that can be tested cheaply from high-consequence decisions, including under time pressure.
  • Strong understanding of marketplace dynamics and two-sided marketplace business models.
  • Sound judgment in ambiguous situations, including the ability to assess whether evidence is sufficient to act or more analysis is needed, and to explain the reasoning.
  • Track record of driving cross-functional decisions to a conclusion without direct authority over stakeholders.
  • Excellent written communication, particularly the ability to make quantitative arguments that executive audiences can act on.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with labor supply-side economics in a marketplace, such as ride-hailing, delivery, or professional services.
  • Experience compensating an independent-contractor workforce and familiarity with related constraints.
  • Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another business where eligibility and payer rules shape who can serve whom.
  • Fluency with experimentation and causal inference when clean randomization is not always available.

Responsibilities

  • Own a targeted, measurable, and reversible incentive system that directs therapist availability toward client needs.
  • Own the structure and clarity of the therapist compensation model, including what therapists can predict about earnings and what the model rewards.
  • Define what adequate network supply means and build tools and features to address supply gaps.
  • Develop a compelling and sustainable therapist earnings proposition; use controlled rollouts and rigorous measurement to learn what changes availability before committing to them.
  • Incentivize behaviors that improve client access, including therapist availability, match acceptance, and continuity of care.
  • Analyze and quantify the impact of changes, draw conclusions from data, and plan next steps.
  • Partner with teams responsible for matching, eligibility, member experience, therapist experience, and provider acquisition.
  • Work with finance, clinical, legal, marketing, data science, and operations stakeholders to design, approve, launch, and measure changes.
  • Participate in setting organizational strategy and long-term direction, within and beyond product.
  • Own key performance indicators and monitor them closely.

Benefits

  • Remote work with company-sponsored in-person bonding experiences.
  • Competitive compensation.
  • Holistic perks program, including free therapy and employee wellness offerings.
  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) benefits with employer matching contribution.
