About The Position

Azul is hiring a Principal Product Manager to own areas across Azul Intelligence Cloud, Azul Optimizer Hub, and Payara InSight, working alongside other product managers. The role owns strategy, roadmap, pricing, market positioning, and business outcomes for assigned areas, with accountability for results such as sales, pipeline generation, pilot-to-production conversion, adoption, and retention. The balance of work across the three products may shift with business needs. The role may also involve work directly on Azul Core and Azul Prime because these products are closely connected to Azul’s Java runtimes. The role is an individual contributor position with no direct reports. It reports to the VP of Product Management and partners with the CPO, CEO, CRO, CTO, engineering, sales, marketing, and finance. The product manager sets multi-year direction, translates strategy into sequenced roadmaps, makes trade-offs across products, and builds alignment around delivery. Responsibilities also span pricing and packaging, customer and market research, technical documentation, product usability, launches, sales enablement, customer calls, deal support, and escalations. The role requires sufficient understanding of JVM architecture and operating principles to work credibly with engineering, particularly around JIT compilation and warm-up, which are relevant to Optimizer Hub. The position is fully remote and requires comfort working asynchronously across multiple time zones. The products include a SaaS offering that works across JVM vendors, a self-hosted Kubernetes-based optimization product for Azul Prime, and an application visibility product for Azul Payara customers.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience, including several years owning a product or product line end to end from strategy through launch and revenue.
  • Track record shipping enterprise SaaS in an adjacent market such as application performance monitoring, application security, observability, optimization, systems management, or log analytics.
  • Fluency with AI tools and experience working in an AI-first product management organization; uses AI tools in daily product work and has a perspective on their appropriate use.
  • Deep technical fluency, including the ability to read architecture diagrams, follow engineering discussions, and ask incisive questions.
  • Demonstrated ownership of pricing and packaging for a technical product, including cross-functional work to approve and launch a model.
  • Understanding of DevOps engineers, platform engineers, and developers as key influencers in enterprise sales.
  • Strong knowledge of public cloud platforms, including AWS, Azure, and GCP, and Kubernetes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English, effective with both engineers and Fortune 100 CIOs.
  • Comfort working fully remotely and asynchronously across multiple time zones; self-directed and a strong writer.
  • Comfort working in a startup-shaped environment where bringing order to chaos is part of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on software or quality engineering background, including experience writing code and debugging production systems.
  • Experience with open source communities.
  • Familiarity with cloud cost optimization, including how compute is provisioned, monitored, and optimized.
  • Experience taking a new product from early traction to a durable revenue line.
  • Working knowledge of Java and Java development tooling.
  • Familiarity with Jakarta EE application servers such as Payara, WebLogic, WebSphere, or JBoss, and with OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience working across multiple products, especially products at different stages or sold through different motions.
  • Experience with infrastructure software that customers deploy and operate themselves, rather than SaaS alone.

Responsibilities

  • Own the success or failure of assigned product areas in the market and share accountability for the three products’ overall results.
  • Define success measures, instrument results, report performance honestly, and adjust products when data indicates the strategy is wrong.
  • Set multi-year product direction, including target segments, build-versus-partner decisions, and alignment with other product and company offerings.
  • Report to the VP of Product Management and present strategy, roadmap, and pricing decisions to executive leadership, using data to support recommendations.
  • Translate strategy into a sequenced roadmap, make cross-product trade-offs explicit, align engineering, sales, and marketing, communicate plans internally and to customers, and manage scope.
  • Develop pricing, packaging, and metering approaches for Intelligence Cloud, Optimizer Hub, and Payara InSight; build and test models with the field and work with finance and sales to implement them.
  • Work closely with engineering in sprints, design reviews, and implementation trade-offs; conduct customer requirements sessions and direct UX and UI work.
  • Guide the operator experience for installing, sizing, and running Optimizer Hub on Kubernetes.
  • Own customer-facing technical documentation and knowledge base content for assigned areas; demonstrate products and critique usability.
  • Partner with marketing on positioning, product launches, sales enablement, and public-facing content.
  • Join customer and prospect calls, support deals, handle escalations, and conduct competitive and market research.
  • Communicate product value to developers, platform teams, and executive buyers.
  • Maintain technical credibility with engineering through understanding of JVM architecture and principles of operation, particularly JIT compilation and warm-up.
