About The Position

Sonos is seeking a highly experienced Principal Product Manager, Software to join their team, focusing on the critical areas of Global Identity, Security, and Regulatory Compliance. In this senior individual-contributor role, you will define and deliver the foundational software capabilities that protect users, their data, and the platform, ensuring compliance with global standards and maintaining trust at the scale of millions of households. This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the security and identity foundation of a world-class audio ecosystem, balancing innovation with robust protection and compliance. You will tackle ambiguous, cross-cutting problems that impact multiple teams, systems, and historical data, translating them into a clear, executable strategy. Collaboration with engineering, legal, privacy, and other product teams is essential to build scalable solutions that protect customers without compromising Sonos's renowned simplicity and user delight. As a Principal Product Manager, you are expected to act as a force multiplier, setting direction, elevating product craft, and improving the capabilities of those around you, not just within your product area but across the broader product organization.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Product Management experience, including at least 3–5 years focused specifically on software products related to global identity, security, and/or regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated Principal-level scope, with a track record of owning complex, technical, platform-level, or systems-oriented products in a consumer software or connected-hardware environment.
  • Deep domain expertise in identity management systems (e.g., SSO, MFA, identity providers), cybersecurity best practices (e.g., secure coding, threat modeling), and global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Strong technical fluency, including a solid grasp of software architecture, APIs, cloud security principles, cryptography, and modern identity protocols (e.g., OAuth, OpenID Connect).
  • Exceptional strategic and analytical thinking, with the ability to zoom from long-term vision down to specific metrics, risks, or edge cases.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to articulate complex technical and regulatory concepts to diverse audiences and build consensus.
  • A modern, AI-fluent approach to product development, with hands-on experience using AI tools for research synthesis, spec drafting, data analysis, prototyping, or workflow automation.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and lean resourcing, with experience thriving in situations where the team was smaller than the scope demanded.
  • A collaborative, low-ego leadership style.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with consumer electronics, smart home, or IoT products.
  • Familiarity with industry security certifications.
  • Experience building or scaling internal AI-assisted tooling or workflows for a product or engineering organization.
  • Experience working with global teams and navigating regional regulatory nuances.

Responsibilities

  • Own product strategy for identity, security, and compliance.
  • Define and champion the vision, roadmap, and success metrics for global identity management, platform security, and regulatory compliance within the Sonos software ecosystem — including authentication, authorization, data privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), identity profiles and roles, and related critical initiatives.
  • Translate ambiguity into clarity by taking complex regulatory requirements and security needs and turning them into clear, actionable requirements (epics, user stories, acceptance criteria) for engineering and design teams.
  • Champion the user by grounding every decision in a deep understanding of Sonos customers, ensuring security and compliance work protects people without adding friction.
  • Hold an exceptionally high quality bar for security and identity experiences, ensuring they hold up under real-world conditions, edge cases, and scale.
  • Partner deeply with engineering, legal, and privacy teams, working as a peer to shape technical and policy trade-offs.
  • Lead without authority by influencing roadmaps, priorities, and decisions across teams, acting as the connective tissue between technical and business audiences.
  • Monitor and get ahead of regulatory change by tracking global developments in data privacy, security, and digital identity regulation, identifying risks and opportunities, and shaping product solutions.
  • Mentor and elevate other PMs by acting as a role model for product craft through documentation, reviews, and coaching.
  • Modernize how product is built by bringing modern PM practices into the team's work, including using AI tools to accelerate research synthesis, spec writing, prototyping, data analysis, and decision-making.
  • Operate effectively in a lean team structure, using AI-assisted workflows to extend leverage rather than relying on large team sizes.
