Principal Product Manager, Capital Platform

Upstart
$187,900 - $260,000Remote

About The Position

Upstart's Capital Platform team builds the systems that enable capital to flow through Upstart’s marketplace reliably, transparently, and at scale. The team owns the core platform capabilities used by banks, credit unions, and institutional investors to onboard, configure programs, execute originations and loan sales, and monitor portfolio performance. Operating at the intersection of product, engineering, capital markets, finance, and compliance, the Capital Platform team focuses on building enterprise-grade, configurable, and reusable infrastructure that supports a growing and increasingly diverse set of capital partners across products. This team is responsible for foundational platform capabilities including partner integrations, capital execution workflows, and capital insights and reporting — with an emphasis on white-label and embedded capital solutions that allow partners to leverage Upstart’s technology within their own ecosystems. As a Principal Product Manager, Capital Platform, you will be a senior, hands-on individual contributor owning strategy and execution for one of Upstart’s most complex and high-impact capital platform problem spaces. This role is well suited for a Staff+ IC who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building enterprise-grade platforms from first principles, and wants to shape how lenders and investors integrate with Upstart at scale. You will lead multi-quarter initiatives that cut across product, engineering, finance, and compliance, and deliver durable, extensible systems that serve both current and future capital partners.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product management experience, or equivalent demonstrated scope and impact owning complex, multi-quarter initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience leading initiatives at a Principal / Staff-level individual contributor scope
  • Proven track record designing and shipping platforms or shared systems, not just standalone features
  • Experience working with complex B2B or B2B2C workflows (e.g., onboarding, configuration, payments, compliance, reporting)
  • Ability to operate effectively in regulated, high-reliability environments
  • Strong technical fluency and experience partnering closely with engineering on architecture and system design tradeoffs
  • Ability to drive alignment and execution across multiple teams and stakeholders without formal authority
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical, analytical, or business-related field

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building enterprise-grade platforms or infrastructure products, particularly in financial services, fintech, or regulated domains
  • Experience with zero-to-one product development, including defining problem spaces, validating solutions, and scaling initial implementations
  • Familiarity with capital markets, lending, or financial operations workflows
  • Experience building or evolving data platforms, reporting systems, or analytics products
  • Background working in high-growth or scaling technology companies
  • Prior collaboration with machine learning, data science, or advanced analytics teams

Responsibilities

  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and execution for a major Capital Platform problem space with material business impact
  • Lead multi-quarter, cross-team initiatives that require deep systems thinking and operate under significant ambiguity
  • Design scalable, configurable platform capabilities that serve a diverse set of capital partners without fragmentation or bespoke delivery
  • Partner deeply with engineering to define product architecture, tradeoffs, sequencing, and long-term evolution of capital platform systems
  • Influence adjacent platform and vertical teams to ensure capital partner needs are consistently met across products
  • Use data, customer insight, and domain knowledge to make high-conviction product decisions and prioritize effectively
  • Deliver durable, enterprise-grade solutions that meet reliability, compliance, and operational requirements
