Principal Product Manager - AI Foundations

Coupa Software, Inc.Foster City, CA
$170,000 - $237,333

About The Position

This is an internal AI product management role within Coupa's AI Center of Excellence (AI COE). We are seeking an operationally disciplined, strategic Senior Product Manager to lead our AI Foundations. You will define the vision, delivery, and scaling of our core AI platform, overseeing the AI-specific integration and data layer that connects our AI models to enterprise systems — complementing, not duplicating, the broader enterprise integration ecosystem owned by IT Integrations. Acting as the AI-focused strategic bridge between business operations, AI Platform and AI Engineering teams, IT Portfolio Leads, and our internal community of practitioners, you will establish the trust policies and operational governance required to deploy and scale high-impact AI initiatives safely across the organization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of product management experience, specifically with large-scale internal enterprise systems or platform operations.
  • Adaptability & Agility: You thrive in high-ambiguity environments where priorities shift. You possess the agility to pivot product focus without losing momentum or operational rigor.
  • Operational Discipline: You focus on post-launch success—monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving platform stability rather than just chasing the next shiny feature.
  • Platform and Capability Roadmap: Proven track record of managing end-to-end platform and capability lifecycles—from strategic definition and architectural roadmap planning to execution, deployment, and operational scaling.
  • Consultative Mindset & High EQ: Demonstrated ability to influence senior cross-functional leaders (Engineering, Security, Legal) without direct authority. You are an expert at translating technical AI constraints into plain-English business solutions and use high empathy to navigate organizational change.
  • Agent Development & Lifecycle Management: Hands-on experience architecting, building, and scaling AI agents. You are capable of owning the full lifecycle—from rapid prototyping to production-grade deployment—and can autonomously develop and maintain complex agentic workflows.
  • AI Ecosystem Design & Leverage: Proven ability to orchestrate complex agent ecosystems that leverage our underlying platform and capabilities. You have deep experience designing architectures that utilize our specific models, tools, and integration frameworks—deciding how to best leverage our shared infrastructure to maximize impact and scalability across the organization. You partner closely with AI Solution Architects to validate final technical architecture decisions.
  • Strategic AI Fluency: You possess a keen "pulse" on the evolving agentic landscape. You anticipate how new model capabilities and integration patterns impact our roadmap, translating market intelligence into architectural requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Define and communicate the AI platform vision and roadmap.
  • Lead quarterly planning to align stakeholders on priorities, ensuring the team remains focused on high-value initiatives.
  • Own the AI product backlog.
  • Facilitate regular grooming sessions to break down requirements into actionable tasks, ensuring clear dependency management and scope control.
  • Drive the day-to-day operational rhythm, including risk assessment and cross-functional syncs, and collaborate with the Enterprise PMO on status reporting and program tracking, to ensure the platform meets its delivery milestones.
  • In partnership with IT Integrations and Enterprise Architecture, prioritize which internal systems, tools, and data systems should be connected to our AI models to maximize enterprise productivity.
  • Coordinate the rollout of new integrations in coordination with AI delivery teams and IT Change Management.
  • Ensure that when a new data source is connected, it is documented, tested, and ready for end-user teams to adopt.
  • Partner with AI Platform and AI Engineering teams, who own technical monitoring, to review platform integration health and performance — ensuring connections between our AI models and company applications are running smoothly and meeting expectations.
  • Partner with security and legal to operationalize AI Governance policies.
  • Maintain clear records of how and when our AI models access company data, and feed platform usage, reliability, and uptime metrics into the Enterprise PMO's comprehensive program status tracking and reporting to leadership.
  • Act as the primary storyteller for the platform, showcasing successful agent deployments to foster a culture of "agentic fluency" across the enterprise.
  • Cultivate a community of internal subject matter experts to drive platform adoption.
  • Empower these partners to share best practices, serve as frontline support, and facilitate rapid prototyping sprints that surface and scale high-impact, unit-specific use cases.
