Principal Product Designer, Questbank

Questrade Financial GroupToronto, ON
CA$160,000 - CA$180,000Hybrid

About The Position

Questrade Financial Group (QFG) is a financial services company that offers a range of services including securities and foreign currency investment, managed investment portfolios, mortgages, real estate services, and financial services. They utilize cutting-edge technology to enhance the financial success and security of Canadians. QFG combines human-centric collaboration with AI-driven innovation to redefine financial services, seeking a candidate who can use AI to transform customer experiences and empower teams. The company offers a diverse, inclusive, and hybrid workplace that encourages creativity and curiosity. This specific role is for a Principal Product Designer on the Questbank team, focusing on the consumer banking platform, including everyday banking, lending, onboarding, and money movement. Questbank is part of an integrated platform that spans investing, financing, and banking. The Principal Product Designer will lead design across teams and product boundaries, driving the design vision for the entire platform. This is a senior individual contributor role with organization-wide influence, requiring partnership with Product and Engineering leaders to shape product development, quality standards, and strategic direction. The design approach is AI-first, starting with AI tools like Claude and Cursor for logic mapping and exploration, moving to Figma for systems and craft, and then user testing. The ideal candidate will already be working in this manner.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of product design experience with increasing scope and influence
  • Strong product thinker. You understand how design drives customer and business outcomes, not just UI
  • Exceptional visual craft and high standards for interaction design, usability, and overall product quality
  • Deep experience working cross-functionally with Product and Engineering leaders. You're a peer at the table, not a service function
  • Systems-minded. You think about scale, consistency, and long-term leverage
  • Strong understanding of how product needs evolve across stages of growth (0→1, 1→10, 10→100)
  • Active use of AI tools like Claude, Cursor, or Figma Make in your design workflow
  • Ability to lead the most ambiguous, complex problems and bring structure, direction, and momentum
  • Strong communicator who can influence decisions, align teams, and articulate the "why" behind design direction
  • A portfolio that demonstrates industry-leading craft, systems thinking, and impact at scale

Nice To Haves

  • Domain experience in lending, banking, or fintech is a strong asset, but as important is your ability to ramp fast and think like an owner

Responsibilities

  • Lead design on the hardest problems: Own the challenges that don't fit neatly into one squad. Cross-cutting flows, platform-level patterns, and high-stakes product decisions that require both strategic thinking and hands-on craft.
  • Drive design vision across the platform: Work across banking, investing, and financing teams to ensure Questbank delivers a coherent, integrated platform experience, not a collection of disconnected products.
  • Start in AI, finish in Figma: Use Claude and Cursor to map product logic, surface edge cases, and explore directions. Bring validated concepts into Figma for state coverage, system alignment, and production readiness.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering leaders: Influence roadmap decisions, scope tradeoffs, and product strategy. Provide design expertise at the org level, not just the squad level.
  • Elevate the design practice: Raise the bar for quality, process, and craft across the team. Mentor designers through the work: crits, reviews, and direct collaboration, not just feedback from the sidelines.
  • Validate with evidence: Drive research and use data to inform direction. Synthesize findings into clear design rationale that aligns teams and moves decisions forward.
