This position supports Worley Consulting’s growing midstream and pipeline automation capability in Canada, with a preferred location in Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta. The primary purpose of this role is to provide specialist consulting and technical leadership in Pipeline SCADA systems for onshore oil, gas, and energy infrastructure. The Pipeline SCADA Systems Specialist will support clients in strategy, front‑end studies, system architecture development, engineering execution, and operational improvement of pipeline monitoring and control systems. This role combines deep technical SCADA expertise with practical consulting experience, supporting decision‑making, business case development, and delivery of fit‑for‑purpose digital pipeline solutions that improve safety, reliability, and operational excellence. This is a full‑time hybrid position based at a Worley office location in Canada (Calgary or Edmonton preferred).

Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering SCADA systems for pipeline or midstream oil and gas facilities including heater stations, meter stations, compressor stations, and import/export terminals.
  • Strong experience across SCADA, RTU, PLC, and communication systems used in long‑distance and remote pipeline operations.
  • Front‑end engineering experience including: SCADA system philosophy and architecture development, Project scope definition and option studies, Risk identification and mitigation strategies.
  • Detailed design experience including: SCADA I/O databases, network architecture, and logic development, Cause & Effect diagrams and alarm philosophies, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and handover documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership on safety-related automation systems, including interfaces between SCADA, Emergency Shutdown (ESD), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), and Fire & Gas (FGS).
  • Experience working through all phases of project delivery, from concept and feasibility through detailed engineering, commissioning, and operations support.
  • Familiarity with OT networks and industrial cybersecurity principles.
  • Experience with major control and SCADA platforms such as Emerson, Honeywell, Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, Yokogawa, or equivalent systems.
  • Strong self‑starter with an entrepreneurial and consulting mindset.
  • Practical experience in scoping, selling, and delivering consulting or engineering work.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and multicultural teams.
  • Adaptable to varied client needs and project contexts.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls, or Computer Engineering).
  • Eligibility to obtain Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in consulting, owner’s engineer, or advisory roles is an advantage.
  • Experience supporting or integrating Operator Training Systems (OTS) or dynamic simulation environments for operator training and operational readiness.
  • P.Eng. designation.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Pipeline SCADA subject matter expert supporting consulting, studies, and project delivery assignments.
  • Provide front‑end consulting support, including scope definition, option evaluation, system philosophies, and asset automation strategies.
  • Support and lead SCADA system architecture development for pipelines, including RTUs, PLCs, communications networks, SCADA host platforms, and integration with field instrumentation.
  • Develop and review key deliverables such as: Control and SCADA philosophies, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Control narratives and Cause & Effect matrices, I/O databases and system architecture diagrams, Alarm management and cybersecurity concepts.
  • Support pipeline applications including remote pipeline monitoring, block valve automation, pump and compressor stations, flow measurement, custody transfer, and leak detection interfaces.
  • Participate in process safety and operability studies, including HAZOP, LOPA, SIS/SIL reviews, and model or design reviews.
  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams including process, mechanical, electrical, piping, civil, construction, and digital specialists.
  • Assist with and progressively lead proposal development, execution planning, cost estimates, and schedules.
  • Support procurement activities including RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and vendor document reviews.
  • Provide construction, commissioning, and startup support as required, including site visits and system validation.
  • Maintain a strong consulting mindset with a focus on client value, delivery quality, schedule, and cost performance.
  • Collaborate across Worley offices to enable integrated, blended consulting and execution teams.
  • Travel as required to support client engagements and field activities.
