About The Position

McKesson's Corporate Strategy and Business Development team is seeking a Principal to join its Payer & Risk Bearer Strategy and Stakeholder Intelligence team. McKesson provides services that create value for Patients, Pharmacies, Providers, BioPharma Manufacturers, and Plan Sponsors (Payers, PBMs, Employers, and Government Agencies). As the healthcare market undergoes fundamental shifts—including PBM reform, the expansion of value-based care, evolving government payment models, and the rapid growth of the CMS Health Tech Ecosystem—this role will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new ways McKesson can create differentiated value for payers, PBMs, government agencies, and other risk-bearing entities. In this challenging and highly visible role, the Principal will directly advance the SVP's three strategic objectives: (1) Thought Leadership on payer and risk bearer market dynamics, (2) Articulation of McKesson's Future Payer Value Proposition , and (3) Informing McKesson Strategy and Solution Development across business units. This role is a senior individual contributor position with a strong expectation of hands-on analytical ownership. The Principal is accountable for personally leading and executing the most complex, ambiguous strategic analyses facing the Payer & Risk Bearer Strategy team, where problems are ill-defined, data is incomplete or fragmented across business units, and established playbooks do not exist. The Principal will evaluate opportunities to partner with or acquire emerging players from the CMS Health Tech Ecosystem, support BU- and corporate-level strategic decision-making through market analysis, emerging industry trend identification, portfolio analysis, and assessment of strategic needs that arise from payer, PBM, government agency, or other plan sponsor industry shifts. This role will provide leadership, insight, and consultation in the design, development, and implementation of strategic initiatives that advance McKesson's objective to Advance Health Outcomes for All. While influencing senior leaders across the enterprise, the Principal remains directly responsible for the rigor, quality, and synthesis of analysis that underpins strategic recommendations, investment theses, and partnership decisions. Successful candidates will have experience "in the business" of health tech ecosystem solutions that create value for payers and healthcare stakeholders, with a strong network of relevant industry relationships. Candidates must articulate the value drivers of payers, PBMs, and plan sponsors, and the characteristics of successful players positioned to win in the long term. Ideal candidates are self-starters, self-directed, and motivated to make contact with potential partners and advance relationships aggressively. The role reports to the Senior Vice President, Payer & Risk Bearer Strategy.
