About The Position

Boston Scientific is seeking a highly skilled Principal Packaging Engineer with extensive technical knowledge of packaging materials, processes and technologies. This position works with cross-functional global teams to develop advanced packaging systems for new Interventional Oncology and Embolization products. In a Hybrid work mode, this position applies Packaging R&D principles to design, develop, lead, and execute development strategies and project plans.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of Packaging R&D experience in the Medical Device industry
  • ISO 11607, relevant ASTM and ISTA standards, and Quality System understanding and demonstrated use
  • Working expertise in the properties, performance and processing of paperboard, corrugated, flexible packaging films, Tyvek, thermoformed trays, injection molded parts, and packaging equipment
  • Understanding of quality system and design controls (e.g. user needs, design inputs/outputs, verification/validation, etc.)
  • Travel approximately <5%

  • Experience performing root cause analysis, designing and executing experimental plans, and using statistical methodologies to drive data-based decisions
  • Experience developing and validating packaging for temperature sensitive products (e.g., cold chain, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills: ability to build relationships and collaborate with global teams
  • Organized and results-oriented; ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing tasks
  • Strong communication skills (verbal & written) and presentation skills; ability to communicate with individuals on all levels
  • Ability to work independently to meet project timelines

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and lead technical packaging activities for New Product Development programs, including new technology and next generation products.
  • Incorporates business procedures and industry best practices into development strategy, leveraging comprehensive understanding of business priorities, customer needs and expectations, and clinical application requirements during the packaging development process.
  • Translate customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Create and manage packaging-related documentation such as specifications, test plans, and reports; ensure all activities are documented and meet regulatory guidelines.
  • Develop test plans, execute testing, analyze data and prepare detailed test summaries and technical reports to solve complex challenges and validate innovative packaging systems.
  • Solve complex problems, apply advanced engineering principles and problem-solving methodologies, and innovative approaches when existing technologies or methods are insufficient.
  • Work cooperatively with various BSC departments, divisions, and suppliers, leading teams as assigned, to ensure an improved, practical, and consistent approach to packaging.
  • Maintains deep awareness of emerging technologies and industry trends, serving as a recognized subject matter expert within the organization.
