About The Position

AECOM is hiring a Principal of Interiors for its NY Metro Buildings + Places practice in New York City. This role functions as the practice leader, responsible for leading, inspiring, and building the Interiors practice in the NY Metro area market. The position is based out of AECOM's NYC office. The Buildings + Places practice encompasses architecture, interiors, building engineering, workplace strategy, business transformation, asset advisory, economics and development planning, master planning, urban planning, and landscape architecture. AECOM aims to create better outcomes by partnering with clients to develop innovative, sustainable, and resilient solutions throughout the project lifecycle.

Requirements

BS/BA +10 years of related experience with an Architectural and Engineering firm, with at least 2 years of experience acting in a leadership or practice-building capacity or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.
3 years of Marketing, Design and/or Project Management experience for Federal, NYC Agencies, Transportation, Aviation, Education, CCRE (Corporate Commercial Real Estate), or commercial interiors markets.
Registered/Certified Interior Designer (NCIDQ) or Architect with current license.
US citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

15+ years of related experience including 10+ years acting in a leadership or management capacity is strongly preferred.
3+ years experience working in a multi-disciplinary practice.
Demonstrated ability to grow a practice and meet planned revenue targets.
Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills including both verbal/presentation and written.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic vision and day-to-day administration of the Interiors group.
Responsible for development and execution of goals, business plan and profitability, aligning efforts with regional and national business unit plans and goals.
Work in partnership with other office Interiors Leadership (Design Director, Operations, Technical) to achieve business and practice goals.
Participate in the review of fee proposals and workload projection for projects.
Work with upper management to support brand messaging which is consistent and present with the client, the internal design studio, and the design community.
Maintain action plan for all Interiors projects and conduct regular review sessions with appropriate personnel.
Work closely with project managers to identify budget and schedule constraints, support project profitability.
Understand and enforce conditions of client contracts, and understand scope of work and where appropriate seek additional services.
Ability to think strategically, implement change, enforce policy and resolve conflict.
Lead the development and execution of the Interior’s marketing strategy at the local and regional business unit level collaborating with regional leadership and other market sectors leaders.
Identify and pursue new business opportunities and grow current client relationships including early client positioning.
Leverage network of professional business contacts and build external and internal cross market/discipline network.
Lead pursuit strategy for RFQ/RFP responses including, project approach, scope of work development, fee preparation, and interview preparation and interview.
Ensure positive client, consultant, contractor and jurisdictional satisfaction, grow our presence in the market.
Work with marketing team in development of marketing material and proposal preparation.
Serve as a mentor by coaching teams and individuals; grows and develops the group and individual members.
Responsible for performance development, prepare and deliver staff evaluations, and determine workload allocation.
Participate in interviews and recruiting of professional staff and build appropriate staff levels.
Encourage staff exploration, innovation and design excellence.
Keep abreast of new technology, materials, methods and developments in his/her specific field.
Maintain membership and activity in appropriate industry organizations and be an active member of the design community.
