About The Position

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will play a critical leadership role in the design and development of advanced mechanical systems supporting mission-critical communications technology. Working within a high-performing engineering team, you will lead mechanical design activities, influence product architecture, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, high-reliability solutions that meet demanding military and environmental standards. This role offers the opportunity to combine hands-on technical expertise with leadership, mentoring junior engineers while driving innovation across the full product lifecycle. You will work closely with R&D, testing, manufacturing, and customer service teams to ensure successful product outcomes in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in the design of complex, high-reliability systems, ideally within electronics, communications or ruggedised environments.
  • Deep technical expertise in mechanical design, combined with the ability to lead projects, influence design decisions and mentor others.
  • Strong capability in 3D CAD tools and a solid understanding of materials, manufacturing processes and thermal management principles.
  • Experience working across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to validation and production, with a focus on delivering robust, high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset, attention to detail and the ability to operate in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working to military or environmental standards, or within highly regulated industries, will be highly regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design activities for enclosures, chassis, thermal solutions and structural components
  • Drive architecture decisions and establish mechanical design strategies for new and existing products
  • Perform advanced CAD modelling, tolerance analysis and design documentation
  • Conduct structural, thermal and vibration analysis to meet MIL-STD requirements
  • Collaborate with electrical and software teams to integrate components into rugged assemblies
  • Oversee prototype builds, validation testing and design qualification
  • Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership across design reviews
  • Lead cross-functional design reviews with engineering and product teams
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for mechanical issues
  • Partner with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimise design for cost, reliability and manufacturability
  • Support testing, field evaluations and supplier engagement as required
