About The Position

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer at MKS Andover, you will partner with R&D, Engineering, Product management, Applications, and customers to develop and support vacuum valves. You will be responsible for designing and analyzing mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging pertaining to gas flow control and measurement. This role involves initiating and conducting feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs, and potentially directing support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication. The candidate is expected to embrace the “Learn Before You Lead” principle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • 8+ years of experiences or equivalent combination of education and experiences with flow
  • Working knowledge or at least an understanding of gas dynamic principles (E.g. Ideal Gas Law, Continuity Equation, Bernoulli’s Principle, Shock Waves and Compressibility)
  • Experience communicating complex topics to a range of technical audiences (in person or remote)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, customer-first, environment
  • Candidate must be able to shift primary focus while keeping a secondary focus on existing work

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and analyzes mechanical systems, equipment and packaging pertaining to gas flow control and measurement
  • Initiates & Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs
  • May direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication
  • Lead design engineer through a full phase-gate product development from Concept & Feasibility to Release to Sales
  • Working with Marketing on Specification development
  • Test Plan generation to validate specifications / new functions (focus on Risk Up Front)
  • Cost analysis (inclusive of working with Supply Chain to get quotes)
  • Prototype development (MVP)
  • Initiating & Leading design reviews
  • Overseeing product structuring / mechanical drawings
  • Working with Production to flesh out Manufacturing plan
  • Working with Reliability (DFMEA, DFX, Life Testing, Qualification)
  • Submission of deliverables / reports to Project Manager
  • Communicating complex topics to a range of technical audiences (in person or remote)
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, customer-first, environment where priorities can change quickly
  • Ability to shift primary focus while keeping a secondary focus on existing work
