About The Position

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (OTS) is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer with a strong structural engineering background to support its growing Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Engineering Team. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in the structural design and analysis of solid rocket motors and related propulsion components. This role is responsible for leading the structural design, development, integration, and verification of critical SRM hardware. Key focus areas include structural modeling, analysis, and documentation for components such as motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, load-bearing interfaces, and other primary structures. This position may be performed remotely or onsite at their Huntsville, AL., Niceville, FL., or Hampton, AR locations.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience
  • Engineering degree required

Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced engineering techniques to design, install, modify, analyze, repair and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanically functioning equipment.
  • Guides the interpretation of blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Collaborates with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
  • Researches and analyzes customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Specifies system components or directs modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.
  • Investigates equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and makes recommendations to maintenance crew.
  • Leading the structural design, development, integration, and verification of critical SRM hardware.
  • Structural modeling, analysis, and documentation for components such as motor cases, nozzles, insulation systems, joints, load-bearing interfaces, and other primary structures.
