The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the mechanical hardware design, development and production of critical defense systems. The HWE Team uses state-of-the-art tools, processes, technology, and Raytheon’s CORE principles. HWE’s capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, prototyping, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation. Within the Hardware Mechanical Engineering team, the Undersea & Electronics Systems (UES) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers. The (UES) Department is looking for a full-time Principal Mechanical Engineer to manage the execution of the scope and future strategy associated with Back-End Electronics technology. This role will bring a blend of technical expertise, experience in mechanical hardware design, system integration skills, and program execution whether design and development or production support. As a key contributor on a mechanical or cross-functional engineering team, you will take responsibility for component and assembly modeling, documentation, design changes, and releases processes.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years’ experience
  • Experience in the design of mechanical design for military or aerospace or commercial applications, managing multiple concurrent technical baselines.
  • Experience with hardware packaging and integration for military or mechanical or commercial applications in a collaborative environment.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with ANSI drawing standards and/or first order or structural analysis techniques.
  • Experience in ruggedized or military integration.
  • Experience with CREO(Pro/E) or similar 3D solid modeling software.
  • Leadership skills and project management for strategic decisions.
  • Experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Advanced degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).

Responsibilities

  • Develop sound technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle.
  • Program support and development from early development through transition to production.
  • Lead the mechanical development of radar back-end electronics systems and components that achieve the performance requirements at the system level.
  • Ensure balance with risk conditions and constraints while advising leadership.
  • Frequent technical contact with the customer and senior personnel regarding requirements, significant technical commitments, future technical needs, etc.
  • Maintain responsibility for meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product.
  • Periodic travel will be required to support collaboration, and hardware build and test.
