About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Space Systems is seeking a Principal Manufacturing Engineer - Level 3 to join their Launch Systems Manufacturing Integration Team in Chandler, AZ. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. Relocation assistance is not available. The role involves designing manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling. It also includes designing machine arrangements for efficient plant layouts, sequencing operations, specifying fabrication procedures for tools and equipment, and adapting machine designs to factory conditions. The engineer may incorporate inspection and test requirements, inspect machinery performance, investigate and initiate corrective actions, develop statistical process control methods, provide guidance on Design For Manufacturing (DFM) concepts, and ensure compliance with regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of professional experience – OR – Master’s degree with 3 years of professional experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance
  • Experienced in creating, supporting & sustaining the use of Manufacturing Engineering System (MES) work instructions
  • Proficient in DFM
  • Experience with manufacturing processes, procedures work cell layout, production build sequence, tooling design, troubleshooting/corrective action, and quality assurance.
  • Experience adapting machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions
  • Familiarity working with CAD, NX, Costpoint and Teamcenter

Nice To Haves

  • An active US Government Secret (or above) security clearance
  • A Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering
  • Familiarity with Northrop Grumman processes

Responsibilities

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plans.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, investigate and initiate corrective actions for problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develop manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provide guidance to engineering regarding Design For Manufacturing (DFM) concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
