Principal Manufacturing and Process Engineer, High-Temp Composites

Continuous Composites IncKent, WA
$150,000 - $190,000Onsite

About The Position

At Continuous Composites Inc., we are redefining what is possible in advanced manufacturing. Our unique CF3D® technology for composite 3D printing opens new frontiers in Aerospace and Defense. We thrive on innovation, rapid iteration, and empowering every team member to take initiative and drive breakthrough solutions. Our mission is to transform industrial manufacturing through pioneering research, creative problem-solving, and relentless execution. Position Summary: Position: On-Site Kent, Washington (Must be willing to relocate to our Kent location) The Continuous Composite Engineering Team is seeking a Principal Manufacturing and Process Engineer to support in-house efforts to develop High Temperature Composites. In this role you will work with the engineering and operations team to develop and refine Continuous Fiber (CF3D) Printing process for high temperature composites. This role will require getting your hands dirty and standing up a facility (Kent, WA) to manufacture high quality preforms and densified high temperature composites (C/C, C/SiC, C/C-SiC). This requires the ability to develop and optimize processes that become standardized across the production facility. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking concepts from R&D to product delivery, from commissioning a manufacturing facility through developing thermal protection systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, materials, or manufacturing engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in composites engineering, with a strong focus on high-temperature materials (e.g., carbon-carbon, ceramic matrix composites, refractory metals, fiber layout, PIP & CVI densification, optimization of pyrolysis cycles).
  • Proven track record in ownership, optimization, and leading R&D projects
  • Experience with material characterization techniques (thermal, mechanical, microstructural, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills for proposal development, report writing, and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor junior team members.
  • Strong background in statistics and problem-solving techniques.
  • Must be willing to relocate to our Kent location
  • Qualified candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Candidates need to be lawfully able to work on ITAR or controlled information which requires that the applicant be a U.S. Person as defined by 22 CFR 120.62.

Responsibilities

  • Own manufacturing process to leverage CF3D to print CMC preforms, the process to densify preforms, and the process to verify and validate the final high temperature material.
  • Build out a new manufacturing facility for engineering development and to scale an existing facility for production of high temperature materials.
  • Lead development process and optimization to take research into production. R&D projects include development of ceramic matrix composite preforms (including material selection), processing, characterization, and performance evaluation for high thermal environments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, business) to execute multi-year development plans.
