About The Position

As a Principal Lead Piping Designer, you will play a critical role in executing engineering projects by creating detailed piping designs and 3D models. Working under the direction of the Piping Lead, this role requires collaboration with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, Discipline Leads, and Operations Representatives to ensure successful project delivery within schedule and budget constraints.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of proven experience in piping design, with specific and extensive experience in brownfield engineering.
  • Advanced proficiency in Hexagon's SmartPlant 3D (S3D) software, CAD software, and related drafting tools.
  • Experience with laser scanning (Leica preferred).
  • Deep understanding of piping systems, plant layout design, piping specifications, and industry standards.
  • Familiarity with plant breakdown structures and naming conventions.
  • Strong understanding of quality control processes for 3D models, as well as model review and validation procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to share technical know-how and drafting expertise with the broader team.

Nice To Haves

  • Piping Designer Certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create and modify 3D piping models using Hexagon's SmartPlant 3D (S3D).
  • Generate 2D drawings, including isometrics and orthographic drawings, to support the overall project team.
  • Perform clash detection analysis utilizing laser scans and resolve interference issues to ensure constructability.
  • Assist the Piping Lead with progress reporting and troubleshooting to ensure the timely completion of engineering projects.
  • Support the expediting of critical piping items and technical goods.
  • Generate technical documentation using Covestro templates (e.g., line lists, tie-in lists, valve lists).
  • Draft and maintain comprehensive piping documentation (basic, detail, interface, final) and redline P&IDs to reflect project scope.
  • Participate in multi-discipline workflows, maintaining active cross-communication within the piping team and external sub-teams.
  • Support, coordinate, and prepare materials for discipline model reviews to ensure designs meet business and cross-discipline requirements.
  • Adhere to established project standards, piping specifications, and company policies to ensure design results meet technical quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness requirements.
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of commissioning and start-up activities to meet project requirements.
