About The Position

RS&H is currently seeking a Principal Highway Engineer to join their Transportation team in Tampa, FL. This role serves as a discipline leader, subject matter expert, and technical resource within the infrastructure team. Responsibilities include defining project elements and processes, participating in bid preparation, maintaining client relationships, overseeing contract performance, leading projects (including complex and major ones), coordinating project execution, supervising design and technical delivery teams, presenting technical solutions to clients, recommending new practices, and developing standard operating procedures. The position may also involve managing a small team of direct reports.

Requirements

Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program and 15 years relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Professional engineer in good standing.
Knowledgeable of applicable federal, state and local codes, criteria, regulations, and ordinances.
Proficient in production software and construction document production.
Proven background and ability to make decisions that have significant impact to an organization.
Ability to recommend operational strategies and plans with direct impact on results.
Recognized as a thought leader in the industry.
Experience leading the work of multiple disciplines.
Experience in participating in and/or having decision-making on technical matters within discipline.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to communicate with senior leadership on matters of strategic importance.
Ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Serve as a discipline leader, subject matter expert, and technical resource for discipline and related program activities.
Define project elements and processes required to meet client needs.
Participate in and coordinate the preparation of bids.
Promote and maintain client relationships.
Oversee performance to contracts through shared planning and monitoring of work orders and deliverables with engineering, construction, and various other disciplines.
Lead projects, including major projects with complex elements and a broad scope of responsibilities.
Coordinate with project management to execute project plans.
Directly supervise the teams' design and technical delivery.
Promote and maintain client relationships through all project phases, including presenting directly to the client on technical and design solutions.
Serve as a firm ambassador to win new work.
Recommend new practices or changes in emphasis for professional services.
Lead the development and application of company-wide standard operating procedures and technical requirements for projects and discipline deliverables.
Manage a small team of direct reports.
