About The Position

As a Principal Fire Protection Specialist you will provide senior technical leadership and subject‑matter expertise in fire protection engineering to support the design, evaluation, and implementation of life safety systems. You will apply advanced fire science, performance‑based design methodologies, and code analysis to complex facilities, while advising clients and internal teams on risk mitigation strategies. In this role, you will also mentor and coach fire protection engineers and specialists, contributing to the technical excellence and growth of the team. You will report to the Director, Fire Protection and be located at Kitchner, Ontario. This position will be offered as a hybrid role. Employees working in hybrid roles are expected to work onsite at our Kitchner, Ontario office 2 days per week.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 + years of related professional experience, including at least 5 years providing fire protection engineering and consulting services
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering OR a college diploma or degree in Fire Protection Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or Building Design Technology
  • Licensed by PEO, OAA, or an equivalent professional regulatory body
  • Advanced technical expertise in performance‑based design, fire protection analysis, computational modeling, life safety systems, and interpretation of fire and building codes and standards

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform performance‑based fire protection design analyses, including fire modeling, egress calculations, code compliance evaluations, and consultation with Authorities Having Jurisdiction
  • Develop comprehensive fire protection system designs, including passive and active systems, integration with architectural and building services, and detailed construction documentation
  • Provide senior‑level engineering review of shop drawings, construction oversight, inspections, field surveys, and acceptance testing for life safety systems
  • Conduct fire hazard, life safety, and code compliance assessments for existing facilities, including hazardous materials evaluations
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical direction to fire protection team members while supporting training, reporting, and emergency engineering response
