Principal EV Charging Systems Engineer EVSE and OCPP

DYNACHRG INCCalabasas, CA
Onsite

About The Position

DynaChrg develops intelligent EV charging and energy-management technology. Our EVES™ platform enables multi-vendor charger management, real-time monitoring, charging transactions, energy optimization, dynamic charging control, and grid-aware services. This role owns the charger-facing technical integration layer of EVES™, including EVSE evaluation, onboarding, interoperability testing, qualification, validation, troubleshooting, and production support. This is a systems integration and interoperability role—not an EV charging construction, installation, or electrical-infrastructure design role.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant professional engineering, systems integration, EV charging product, or technical product experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of direct, hands-on EVSE-to-CSMS integration experience in commercial EV charging.
  • Deep hands-on professional experience with OCPP 1.6J, including analyzing and troubleshooting charger-to-CSMS message flows.
  • Experience with commercial AC Level 2 and/or DC fast chargers.
  • Experience reviewing OCPP messages, charger logs, backend logs, telemetry, protocol traces, and/or network traffic.
  • Ability to diagnose issues across charger hardware, firmware, configuration, networking, OCPP, and CSMS/backend behavior.
  • Experience with EVSE interoperability testing, qualification, validation, or production support.
  • Experience working directly with EVSE OEM engineering/technical teams.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Calabasas, CA, or relocate to the Greater Los Angeles area.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Embedded Systems, or related field; equivalent technical education may be considered with substantial commercial EVSE experience.
  • Strong understanding of EVSE architecture, charger firmware, charging workflows, networking, and charger-to-backend communications.
  • Strong root-cause analysis, technical documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with multiple EVSE manufacturers, both AC Level 2 and DC fast charging, OCPP 2.0.1, Wireshark, charger firmware qualification, automated protocol testing, hardware-in-the-loop testing, TLS/mTLS, smart charging, ISO 15118, Plug & Charge, PKI, OCPI, or V2G.

Responsibilities

  • Lead integration of commercial EVSE with DynaChrg's EVES™ platform.
  • Configure, validate, and troubleshoot OCPP 1.6J communications; support OCPP 2.0.1 integrations.
  • Analyze OCPP message flows, charger/backend logs, telemetry, and network captures.
  • Diagnose root causes across hardware, firmware, configuration, networking, security, OCPP, and backend layers.
  • Lead onboarding and technical qualification of new charger manufacturers, models, and firmware.
  • Perform hands-on EVSE interoperability, regression, and validation testing.
  • Define approved charger firmware, configurations, network settings, and integration requirements.
  • Work directly with charger OEMs to resolve firmware and interoperability issues.
  • Troubleshoot TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, firewalls, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular/LTE/5G, SIM/eSIM, TLS, and certificate-related connectivity.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for complex production EVSE integration issues.
  • Support charger commissioning and field troubleshooting when needed.
