About The Position

Lantern is looking for a Principal Engineer to join our fast-growing Member Experience team. In this role, you will lead the technical direction and ownership of our core member-facing platforms, including our web application, mobile app, and AI-driven chat features. You will be instrumental in architecting scalable solutions that enhance how our members interact with Lantern's services. Location: Hybrid - 3 days/wk (prefer 4 - 5 days) in Dallas, TX, or Vancouver, BC, Canada Current Tech Stack: Web Platform: Angular and TypeScript, with an emphasis on scalable front-end architecture, reusable components, and strong member experience. Mobile Platform: React Native for member-facing mobile experiences. Backend and APIs: .NET / C# services that power core member workflows and integrations. Styling and UI: Tailwind CSS and NativeWind for consistent, modern interface development. Cloud Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure for cloud services, hosting, integration, and operational support.

Requirements

  • Work Experience: Extensive years of professional software engineering experience, preferably with at least 2+ years operating at a Staff, Principal, or equivalent technical leadership level in product-focused environments.
  • Front-End Expertise: Deep expertise in TypeScript, React, and modern front-end architecture, with the ability to operate effectively in environments that also include Angular.
  • Mobile Expertise: Proven experience building and supporting production-grade applications using React Native.
  • Backend and Cloud Fluency: Strong experience partnering with backend teams working in .NET / C# and building solutions that run on Microsoft Azure.
  • Design Systems and UI: Hands-on familiarity with Tailwind CSS and/or NativeWind, reusable component patterns, and high-quality user experience implementation.
  • Domain and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across engineering, product, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience building or integrating AI / LLM-powered product features such as chat, guided workflows, copilots, or search-driven experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Platform Ownership: Lead the development and end-to-end ownership of member-facing web, mobile, and AI chatbot experiences.
  • Architectural Leadership: Define and maintain technical standards for front-end architecture, shared patterns, performance, accessibility, and long-term maintainability.
  • Cross-Platform Integration: Drive a pragmatic strategy for reusable business logic, design consistency, and seamless experiences across web and mobile platforms where it adds value.
  • Backend and Cloud Collaboration: Partner closely with engineers working in .NET / C# and Microsoft Azure to deliver secure, reliable, observable, and scalable solutions.
  • AI and Member Experience: Help shape AI-enabled chat and support capabilities that improve navigation, engagement, and service for Lantern members.
  • Mentorship: Act as a technical pillar for the engineering organization by mentoring engineers, leading design reviews, and guiding complex implementation decisions.
