About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the design, development, and delivery of Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI solutions across enterprise platforms. This role will operate as a senior technical leader responsible for shaping enterprise AI strategy, driving complex engineering initiatives, and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing AI-powered solutions. The Principal Engineer will bring deep expertise in full-stack engineering, modern cloud platforms, and agent-based architectures, enabling intelligent, multi-agent systems that deliver automation, decision support, and enhanced customer and employee experiences.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 5+ years of experience in full-stack development (Java, Spring Boot, Node.js, Python)
  • 5+ years of experience with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS, or Azure)
  • 1+ year of hands-on experience building and deploying GenAI or conversational AI solutions
  • 1+ year of strong understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, and distributed systems
  • 1+ year of experience with LLM-based systems, prompt engineering, or RAG architectures

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Agentic AI frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, or similar)
  • Experience with Vertex AI, OpenAI, or similar GenAI platforms
  • Background in contact center or conversational AI domains (IVR, IVA, Agent Assist)
  • Experience designing multi-agent systems with planning, reasoning, and tool orchestration
  • Knowledge of AI governance, model risk management, and enterprise compliance practices
  • Strong ability to influence across organizations and communicate complex technical concepts

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted technical advisor to senior leadership and influence enterprise-wide technology strategy and AI adoption
  • Lead the design and implementation of GenAI and Agentic AI architectures, including multi-agent orchestration, planning, and tool-based execution
  • Drive development of end-to-end full-stack solutions, including front-end applications, backend services, APIs, and cloud-native platforms
  • Build and scale AI-powered applications, including virtual assistants, agent assist solutions, and workflow automation systems
  • Design and implement RAG pipelines, prompt engineering frameworks, and AI evaluation mechanisms
  • Lead integration of AI solutions with enterprise platforms, APIs, and external systems
  • Establish and enforce best practices for software engineering, AI governance, and platform reliability
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple teams, ensuring solutions are scalable, reusable, and aligned to enterprise standards
  • Collaborate with product, data science, and business teams to translate requirements into innovative engineering solutions
  • Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence across the organization
