About The Position

The Principal Engineer provides technical leadership across Xfinity Mobile systems, multi-MNO integrations, and software platforms. The role bridges MVNO engineering, product, software development, and operations, translating network capabilities, partner interfaces, service behaviors, and product requirements into end-to-end technical solutions and software requirements. The initial focus is international roaming and roaming product service assurance, with support for broader Xfinity Mobile initiatives across a multi-MNO environment. This Engineer 5 role is based with the team at the Comcast Technology Center in downtown Philadelphia and is not eligible for remote or virtual hiring. The engineer leads architecture and design across multiple MNOs, Comcast applications, and business and product integrations; supports engineering teams from architecture through production readiness; and guides technical decisions across product, engineering, operations, MNO, and partner organizations.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in telecommunications, wireless systems, software architecture, systems engineering, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of mobile network and MVNO architectures.
  • Experience designing solutions in multi-MNO, MVNO, or carrier-integrated environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate network, product, and partner capabilities into system and software requirements.
  • Experience designing complex distributed systems and integrations using REST APIs, event-driven architectures, asynchronous messaging, and related integration patterns.
  • Experience designing highly available, resilient, scalable, and operationally supportable applications.
  • Experience with production observability, service assurance, monitoring, logging, metrics, alerting, and end-to-end troubleshooting.
  • Strong systems-thinking and problem-solving skills, including analyzing interactions across networks, applications, partner platforms, and infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical architecture discussions and influence decisions across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; applicants with a combination of coursework and experience or extensive related professional experience may also be considered.
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with an MVNO or mobile network operator.
  • Experience with international roaming products, systems, or service assurance.
  • Knowledge of 4G/LTE and 5G architectures and mobile services.
  • Knowledge of SIM/eSIM provisioning, subscriber provisioning, entitlement, policy, charging, or OSS/BSS systems.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and technologies such as Kafka.
  • Experience with multi-region or multi-site application architectures.
  • Software development experience sufficient to collaborate effectively with application development teams and participate in detailed software architecture and design discussions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end solution architecture for Xfinity Mobile capabilities spanning multiple MNOs, Comcast applications, and business/product partner integrations.
  • Translate network capabilities, partner interfaces, service behaviors, and product needs into system architecture and clear, testable software requirements.
  • Bridge MVNO/network engineering and software development teams, translating telecom capabilities into scalable software solutions.
  • Evaluate differences in MNO capabilities and interfaces and develop solution patterns that enable common Xfinity Mobile capabilities while accommodating MNO-specific requirements.
  • Develop architecture diagrams, end-to-end call flows, interface specifications, APIs, event flows, and functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership for international roaming and roaming product service assurance, including monitoring, observability, troubleshooting, and operational capabilities.
  • Define requirements for highly available and resilient applications, including scalability, security, configuration management, failure handling, recovery, logging, monitoring, and alerting.
  • Partner with software engineering teams throughout architecture, design, development, and production readiness.
  • Analyze complex issues across MNO capabilities, partner platforms, Xfinity Mobile applications, and supporting infrastructure, and drive cross-functional technical resolution.
  • Evaluate solution alternatives and trade-offs in customer experience, reliability, operational complexity, extensibility, cost, and time to market.
  • Lead architecture and design reviews and provide technical guidance and mentorship across engineering teams.
  • Influence technical direction across product, engineering, operations, MNO, and partner organizations.
  • Follow Comcast Operating Principles; put customers first, learn and advocate for Comcast technology and services, collaborate as a team, contribute to the Net Promoter System, drive results and growth, support inclusion, and act responsibly toward colleagues, customers, investors, and communities.
