About The Position

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is looking for a Principal Engineer Process – Manufacturing Engineering (Advanced EO) to join their team on-site in Rolling Meadows, IL. This role supports the assembly of Electro-Optical Infrared (EOIR) production hardware in a dynamic and challenging production environment. Manufacturing Engineers in this role thrive on daily unique challenges, close proximity to products, and enjoy seeing their work in action. They collaborate well across functions and are innovative problem solvers, suited for those who enjoy learning and bring energy to their tasks. This position is full-time and on-site, contingent upon funding, contract award, special access program, and the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or related STEM field with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience; OR a Master of Science (MS) degree in equivalent fields and minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical assembly and alignment, including related equipment and processes such as alignment telescopes, interferometers, optical potting, clean room protocols, optical inspection, lens manufacturing, etc.
  • Experience interpreting mechanical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience in managing small to medium scale projects or leading continuous improvement projects.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start.
  • US Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • 5 or more years of experience in electronic hardware Manufacturing environment
  • Experience in creating process work instructions or developing/improving manufacturing processes
  • Experience performing earned value/CAM efforts.
  • Demonstrated successful experience in Capital Project Management
  • Experience with Manufacturing software planning tools such as SAP
  • Experience in facilities planning
  • Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action methods.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret new design drawings/CAD models and generate the first revision of Manufacturing Engineering Work Instructions, Routers, Tooling/Fixturing and Equipment specific to opto-mechanical assemblies.
  • Identify design improvements for manufacturability to reduce assembly complexity and costs, and engage with Design Engineering to incorporate changes.
  • Coordinate with Design Engineering, Production technicians, Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Quality organizations to build EOIR products and provide solutions for nonconformance repair procedures.
  • Review quality metrics to identify and lead efforts for continuous improvement initiatives to reduce cost, cycle time, and defects.
  • Lead and report on day-to-day process engineering efforts, provide executive-level presentations on project status or plans to resolve production issues, and perform earned value on non-recurring activities.
