About The Position

Northrop Grumman Space Sector is currently recruiting for a Principal/Engineer Mechanical (Level 2 or 3) position (also known as a Facilities Mechanical Engineer) located in Promontory, Utah. This position is fully on-site. The role involves providing engineering design to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department, managing projects, and coordinating procurements and installations to meet program cost and schedule requirements for capital upgrades. The engineer will design mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for various chemical plant systems, prepare design calculations and specifications for major plant equipment, and develop mechanical engineering designs including layout, sketches, and conceptual design. Responsibilities also include checking design deliverables, developing schedules, coordinating with other engineers and craftsmen, providing cost estimates, preparing procurement specifications, reviewing engineering drawings, and troubleshooting industrial mechanical equipment in the field.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with a minimum of 2 years of Facilities Engineering related experience (for Level 2) or 5 years of Facilities Engineering related experience (for Level 3).
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (Secret).
Industrial mechanical design and process equipment experience.
AutoCAD drafting ability.
Ability to work in the field, climb ladders, work outside and in congested areas.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills in managing time, projects and resources.
Leadership ability.
Technical attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Provide engineering design as needed to support the Facilities Mechanical Engineering Department.
Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and installation to meet the program cost and schedule requirements for capital upgrades.
Design mechanical piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) for chemical plant systems including boiler feed and condensate, water treatment, hydraulics, heat transfer systems, conveying systems, and air and gas systems.
Prepare design calculations and specifications for major plant related equipment including, but not limited to heat exchangers, industrial chillers, cooling towers, boilers, condensers, pumps, piping, etc.
Prepare mechanical engineering designs, including layout, design sketches, and conceptual design.
Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
Develop schedules, work assignments and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
Coordinate with other engineers and craftsman assigned to the project or a task, and reviews work progress and results.
Providing detailed cost estimates for project design and implementation.
Preparing specifications for the procurement of pumps, heat exchangers, valves, compressors, tanks, cranes, and other miscellaneous of plant equipment.
Review engineering drawings and designs for manufacturability and functionality.
Troubleshoot industrial mechanical equipment. Resolve equipment problems in the field through technical assistance with Maintenance Craftsmen.
