About The Position

Northrop Grumman’s Space Sector is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer – Level 2 or Level 3 to join their team in the Baltimore MD Area. This position is 100% onsite and cannot accommodate telecommute work. This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. The role involves creating, leading, and approving production plans, providing engineering review and documentation for customer programs, and leading non-conformance review and root cause determination. The engineer will design manufacturing processes, procedures, and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling, optimizing machine arrangements for efficient plant facilities. Responsibilities also include designing sequences of operations, specifying fabrication procedures for tools and equipment, adapting machine designs to factory conditions, incorporating inspection and test requirements, inspecting machinery performance, and developing manufacturing processes applicable to statistical process control. The role requires providing guidance to engineering on design concepts and specification requirements, ensuring compliance with regulations, and directly interfacing with Technicians and supporting roles in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or other related STEM area and at least 2 years of experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area - OR - a Master's degree (Additional years of experience in lieu of degree will be accepted) for Level 2.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or other related STEM area and at least 5 years of experience in Manufacturing/Process Engineering, Production, or related area - OR - a Master's degree with 3 years of applicable experience (Additional years of experience in lieu of degree will be accepted) for Level 3.
  • No clearance required.
  • Hands-on experience with electronics assembly processes and equipment including some of these: soldering, mechanical assembly, epoxy dispensing and curing, conformal coating, thermal interface material dispense/application, Automated Optical Inspection, component/assembly test, etc.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with circuit card installation, box closure, and rework
  • Experience with preventative maintenance
  • Experience with SAP and MES Systems
  • Experience working in an ISO or AS9100 environment

Responsibilities

  • Creates, leads, and approves production plans.
  • Leads efforts to provide engineering review and documents intended processes to maintain schedule for one or more customer programs.
  • Leads non-conformance review and root cause determination.
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Directly interfaces with Technicians and supporting roles in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
