About The Position

Pinnacle Specialty Group is seeking a Principal Engineer – Mechanical Process Design Engineer to provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. This role involves defining the scope of technical programs, developing quality solutions, and applying advanced technical practices to resolve complex problems. The engineer will provide leadership, evaluate program results, and identify areas for technological improvement. Responsibilities include preparing plans, schedules, budgets, and monitoring progress and expenditures. Communication of results and objectives to customers, colleagues, and management is essential, with occasional preparation of reports for external publication. Enhancing expertise through local technical societies and demonstrating creative ability through patent disclosures, problem-solving, and technical writing are also key aspects of the role.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience.
  • MS with 8+ years’ experience.
  • BS with 10+ years’ experience or more.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a nuclear industry/facility.
  • Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.
  • Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems.
  • Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results.
  • Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
  • Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
  • Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
  • Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
  • Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
  • Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
  • Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
  • Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
  • Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
  • Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
  • Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.
  • Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
  • Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
  • Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
  • Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
  • Engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
  • Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
