Principal Engineer, Hardware Emulation

Samsung Semiconductor•San Jose, CA

About The Position

The Principal Engineer, Hardware Emulation works with emulation vendors to improve platform capabilities and debug issues. The role brings up emulation platforms for mixed-signal SoCs; develops monitors and checkers; debugs emulation performance and area issues; and develops and maintains the emulation environment and infrastructure. It supports emulation methodology and tools, develops workflows, and collaborates across teams to improve productivity during debug and runtime analysis. The engineer owns chip-level emulation models used to validate networking-chip subsystems, works with vendors on hardware and tool issues, and enhances methodology for robustness, test throughput, portability, and debuggability. The position supports software test bring-up and debug on the emulator, collaborates with hardware design teams to triage and fix design issues, and uses simulation-based verification knowledge to plan and execute emulation tests. It also helps reproduce on the emulator failures observed in real silicon. Daily onsite presence is required at the San Jose office/headquarters under the company’s Flexible Work policy.

Requirements

  • Experience with at least one industry-standard hardware emulator platform, such as Palladium or Zebu.
  • Experience with emulation compile flows, waveform dumps and triggers, waveform debugging, and running tests.
  • Experience writing scripts in Perl or Python.
  • Exposure to Makefiles or other build flows.
  • Experience with waveform debug tools such as Verdi or SimVision.
  • Good understanding of Verilog and SystemVerilog RTL design.
  • Exposure to synthesizable SystemVerilog or Verilog code and SystemVerilog Assertions (SVAs).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer, Electrical, or Electronic Engineering, or Computer Science, and 20 years of relevant experience; or a master's degree in one of these fields with 18 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Inclusive approach, adapting communication and working style to different situations and diverse global norms.
  • Curiosity, resilience, and a data-informed approach to challenges.
  • Collaborative approach to building relationships, offering support, and welcoming others’ approaches.
  • Innovative and creative approach, with willingness to explore new ideas and adapt to change.
