We are recruiting for a proactive, hands-on, and technically strong Principal Engineer, Environmental Health & Safety for our expanding Milford site. This role will initially require direct execution of many day-to-day EH&S activities typically performed at the engineer level, while also building toward broader program leadership and Principal Engineer responsibilities. The Principal Engineer, EH&S will partner with operations, facilities, quality, engineering, and project teams to maintain a safe and compliant work environment in accordance with federal, state, local, and company requirements. This position provides practical site support, drives incident prevention and corrective actions, and contributes to the continued development of site safety, environmental, emergency response, and contractor management systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years of relevant EH&S experience in a manufacturing, biotech, pharmaceutical, or similarly regulated environment
  • Strong working knowledge of and adherence to applicable OSHA, EPA, DOT, and related environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Experience performing hands-on site-level EH&S activities such as training, inspections, investigations, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-up
  • Demonstrated ability to support or manage EH&S programs while working effectively across functions
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance direct execution with increasing leadership responsibility
  • Experience with EH&S management systems and software for incident tracking, corrective actions, training, or safety data sheet management

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience with ISO 14001 systems is preferred
  • Professional certifications or progress toward certification, such as CSP or CIH, are preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform and directly support day-to-day EH&S operational activities for the Milford site, including many hands-on responsibilities
  • Implement, maintain, and continuously improve EH&S programs, policies, procedures, forms, and training records
  • Develop and deliver EH&S training, including new hire orientation and program-specific training required by site operations and regulations
  • Lead and support incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective and preventive action follow-up
  • Perform hazard assessments, risk evaluations, ergonomic assessments, inspections, and employee exposure monitoring as needed
  • Support industrial hygiene, hazardous waste, biosafety, contractor safety, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, emergency response, and other site EH&S programs
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness activities, drills, and response readiness in partnership with site leadership and response teams
  • Provide EH&S support for construction, equipment installation, facility changes, and process modifications, including design and risk review input
  • Track, compile, and analyze EH&S data and metrics, and recommend actions to reduce risk and improve compliance and performance
  • Assist with environmental permitting, regulatory inspections, audit readiness, and required reporting
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external contractors to communicate requirements, monitor performance, and drive accountability
  • Progressively assume greater ownership of site EH&S programs, priorities, and cross-functional leadership as the role matures
  • Serve as a member of the site emergency or incident response team, as required
