About The Position

Carrier Transicold is seeking a very seasoned and motivated Mechanical or Electrical Engineer to join the Syracuse, NY Truck/Trailer Power Generation team. In this role, the Engineer will provide technical guidance on diesel engine selection, system & subsystem integration, and verification activities to key internal stakeholders. A successful candidate will possess a proven track record of excellence in conducting comprehensive engine system and subsystem evaluation, customer duty cycle analyses, and optimization. Furthermore, the candidate shall have a strong history demonstrating how they have worked effectively with multinational suppliers, global peers and executives. This candidate is expected to be a solid mentor and coach to entry and mid-level engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • 15+ years combined experience of compression ignition (CI) and/or spark ignition (SI) engines and/or related engine/exhaust aftertreatment components.
  • 10+ years experience in any of the following engineering functions: engine application engineering, design, development, validation or qualification is required.
  • 2+ years experience in diesel engine emissions, certification process and/or compliance.
  • 5+ years experience in technical leadership (guiding junior engineers, leading technical peer-to-peer reviews, etc.) supporting team members with executing projects.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without restriction; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice To Haves

  • Willingness to take on unique engineering challenges outside of prior work experience or primary educational background.
  • Familiarity with HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration) systems is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Direct engine and subsystem design evaluation, lead benchmarking and supplier evaluation activities, project planning and tracking, and the qualification of diesel engines and related subsystems used in the Transport Refrigeration Unit (TRU), genset, and auxiliary power unit (APU) applications.
  • Create, modify, or approve technical documentation including functional specifications, technical requirements, qualification test plans, and reports.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the global Sustaining Engineering Groups during their evaluation of engines, subsystems, or component field or test sample failures.
  • Participate in and lead component design reviews, prepare/present technical information to Carrier executive level staff members.
  • Interface with cross functional team members, international engine manufacturers, and engine subsystem suppliers from initial concept to production.
  • Apply knowledge of DFMEA or other robust engineering tools, tolerance analysis, simulation and statistical methods to improve robustness and quality of TRU engines and its components.
  • Implement and support development testing activities, which could include daily interaction with Carrier Transicold test engineering department and component suppliers.
