About The Position

Pratt & Whitney Compression Systems Engineering group seeks a goal-oriented, detail-focused mechanical design engineer to work in the GTF HPC Component Integrated Product Team (CIPT). The selected candidate will be required to take support and leadership roles in complex and high priority tasks, as well as directly support senior level engineers and program managers. This position requires proven technical capabilities, leadership skills, excellent communication skills, self-sufficiency, and willingness to work with and learn from team members.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering with 8+ years of Mechanical Design engineering experience OR Advanced degree with 5+ years of experience
  • Experience with hardware, reading blueprints, and manufacturing methods
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with IBRs or rotors
  • Experience with engineering standard work.
  • Experience with Engineering Change Processes (Class I, Class II, Must Conform, etc)
  • Proficiency in FEA, and/or classical methods of analysis
  • Proficiency in Teamcenter, NX

Responsibilities

  • Design support across all phases of the design cycle, preliminary through detailed design, validation, manufacturing, and operational service and will work on the designs of any component within the HPC modules (i.e. Rotors, airfoils, cases, frames, kinematics, etc…)
  • Support the existing installed GTF fleets through enhanced commonality and optimization of components to ensure that the current and future needs of the business and customer are met.
  • Expand repairability/maintainability for our customers and MRO facilities as well as work with quality clinics and related departments to support the test and verification of field issues
  • Design and implement common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality.
  • Design and review layouts of components, calculate stack-up of detail components, and perform major cost studies consisting of new or existing details and/or marked prints and all supporting documentation, when necessary, to facilitate operations and ensure that established objectives and budgets are achieved.
  • Resolve design problems of difficult-to-complex scope to ensure project completion as well as review completed layouts and drawings to ensure clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning.
  • Communicate with the other engineering personnel to coordinate the interrelated design and ensure project completion. Also, provide technical leadership on IPT’s and when required, assist in training less experienced engineers to help them diagnose and solve problems and build capabilities.
