About The Position

The Los Angeles Unified School District seeks an outstanding Principal, Elementary to lead the students, staff, and the community at Commonwealth Avenue Elementary School towards academic excellence. Commonwealth Avenue School is located in LAUSD’s Local District East within the Downtown/MacArthur Park Community of Schools in the city of Los Angeles. The school provides an instructional program, starting from TK through 5th grade and serves a total of 450 students on a traditional calendar. Commonwealth Avenue School has a Gifted/Talented (GATE) Magnet Center servicing students in 2nd-5th grades. The percentage of students enrolled are as follows: 71% Latino; 11% Filipino; 5% African American; 9% Asian; 3% White; 36% English Learner; 17% Students with Disabilities; 85% Socioeconomically Disadvantaged. Commonwealth Elementary is dedicated to providing a safe learning environment where students engage in rigorous, comprehensive, and culturally relevant curriculum with many enrichment and technology opportunities. Our goal is to cultivate strong, independent critical thinkers willing to be creative risk-takers, with the artistic and technological skills to be life-long learners and productive members in the 21st century digital society. The school is located at 215 S. Commonwealth Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90004.

Requirements

• Eight years of successful full-time public school district certificated service
• A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher in a K-12 program
• A minimum of two years of experience in an elementary school
• Two years of service in a position that required and utilized an administrative credential, such as assistant principal or equivalent position.
• A valid California teaching credential requiring a bachelor’s degree and a program of professional preparation, including student teaching
• A valid California Administrative Services Credential
• Multicultural coursework
• Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
• District Master Plan requirements
• Candidates must be in the appropriate LAUSD eligible pool for the position or currently serving in the class for which they are applying.
• Candidates must successfully complete the appropriate LAUSD Aspiring Administrator Program to be placed in the eligible pool.
