Principal Ecosystem Strategist

Jamestown Management CorporationNew York, NY

About The Position

Industry City is home to 700+ tenant companies spanning manufacturing, food and beverage, design, media, and technology. This role exists to build a peer-level relationship with the leadership of every one of those companies – not as a landlord-tenant liaison, but as a trusted sounding board who understands each business well enough to spot opportunities that the tenants themselves may not see: share customers, shared vendors, complementary capabilities, or capital needs that another tenant on campus could help solve. This is a relationship – and intelligence-driven role, not a leasing or property management function. Success looks like deep fluency in the business model, growth stage, and capital structure of a large share of the tenant base, and a track record of surfacing and brokering introductions that create real value between companies on campus.

Requirements

  • Experience in venture capital, investment banking, business development, or startup operations
  • Genuine curiosity about a wide range of industries and business types
  • Strong relationship-building instincts; credible as a peer to founders and executives, not as a vendor or building representative
  • Self-directed – able to manage a flexible, largely self-scheduled week and prioritize which relationships to invest in.
  • Knowledge of all computer applications and hardware related to performance of the essential functions of the job.
  • Skill in conflict management resolution
  • Skill in organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Skill in the ability to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure & effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions

Responsibilities

  • Meet with 10-15 tenant leadership teams per week, on a rotating basis, to understand their business model, growth trajectory, capitalization/funding status, and near-term needs
  • Act as a candid, peer-level sounding board for founders and executives
  • Maintain a working intelligence map of the tenant ecosystem: who needs what, who has what, opportunities for synergy meetups
  • Proactively broker introductions between tenants where a business, commercial or capital connection could create mutual value
  • Build and maintain trust-based relationships that don’t depend on a leasing transaction to justify the conversation
