About The Position

To provide educational leadership, supervision, and guidance to facilitate cost effective and quality educational programs in compliance with the standards of the Department of Corrections (DOC) Education’s policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Knowledge of current educational theory and practices.
• Knowledge of educational administration.
• General knowledge of state and federal guidelines relating to regular and special education.
• Knowledge of school law.
• Knowledge of school finance.
• Demonstrated ability to plan, supervise, and evaluate educational & Library programs.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Willingness to accept and demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage people effectively.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and direct a complex educational facility.
• Proficient with PC and Microsoft Office software.
• Valid Virginia Teaching Certificate.
• Master Degree in Education or relevant field from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Postgraduate Teaching License with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision.
• Several years of teaching experience.
• Experience working with multi-discipline educational programs.
• Experience and knowledge of current educational theory and practices.
• Experience and knowledge of educational administration, state and federal guidelines relating to regular and special education, school law, and school finance.
• Experience and ability of managing library including planning, supervising, and evaluating educational & Library programs.
• Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities.
• Demonstrated ability to complete the Virginia Ethics Council Conflict of Interest (COI) filing within two (2) business days of hire and annually thereafter.
• Ability to complete COI training within two (2) months of hire and every other year thereafter.

Nice To Haves

• Superintendent's license from the Virginia Department of Education (VADOE).
• Several years of Correctional experience in teaching and managing educational and library programs in a correctional or other alternative setting.
• Knowledge of/Experience in personal and performance management.
• Knowledge of correctional education or other alternative setting.
